This daily Konya city tour from Karaman is a guided day tour to the spiritual capital of Anatolia, about an hour and a half away by road. With pickup from your hotel in Karaman, the daily excursion brings together the Mevlana Museum, the Karatay Madrasa, the Alaeddin Mosque and the Konya Archaeological Museum in one comfortable day.
Mevlana Jalaluddin Rumi was a 13th-century Sufi mystic and poet whose verses on love and tolerance are read in dozens of languages, and the United Nations named 2007 the Year of Rumi. His former dervish lodge, the tekke of the Mevlevi order, is now the Mevlana Museum. Walking through its sections, you see the Matbah where novices were trained in the kitchen, the tombs beneath the famous green dome, the Tilavet Chamber used for Quran recitation and the Sema-Hane, the hall where the whirling ceremony was performed.
The Karatay Madrasa was built by the Seljuk Turks in 1251 as a school of Islamic learning; today its turquoise and cobalt tilework and the ceramics excavated in Konya make it one of the finest small museums in Turkey. The Alaeddin Mosque stands out from later Ottoman mosques with its forest of 42 columns beneath a flat wooden roof. After free time for lunch, the Konya Archaeological Museum presents inscriptions, mosaics and carved sarcophagi. Please note that the Karatay Museum and the Archaeological Museum are closed on Mondays. This Konya day trip is a relaxed, fully guided daily tour for anyone staying in Karaman.

Konya City Highlights Programme Your guide and driver collect you from your hotel in Karaman in the morning, and after a scenic drive of around one and a half hours across the plateau you arrive in Konya. The first visit is the Mevlana Museum, once the lodge of the Mevlevi dervishes and the resting place of the poet and mystic Rumi; inside you explore the Matbah kitchen, the tomb chamber, the Tilavet Chamber where the Quran was recited and the Sema-Hane ritual hall. Next comes the Karatay Madrasa, a Seljuk theological school founded in 1251 and now the Tiles Museum, where glazed Seljuk tiles and ceramic finds from local excavations are on display. You then visit the 13th-century Alaeddin Mosque, notable for its 42 columns and timber ceiling. Free time follows for lunch at a place of your choice. In the afternoon the tour continues at the Konya Archaeological Museum, home to inscriptions, mosaics and sarcophagi spanning the Bronze Age to Byzantine times, before you are driven back to your hotel in Karaman. Note that the Karatay Museum and the Archaeological Museum close on Mondays.

My husband and I chose Inca Tour for our honeymoon and we are so glad we did. The boutique hotel selection was beautiful and the Bosphorus dinner cruise was so romantic. Thank you for making our trip special!
It was important for us to have a guide who spoke Russian, and Ender was wonderful. He explained every detail at Dolmabahce Palace. The Princes Islands day trip was a beautiful break from the busy city.
Our guide Ender was incredibly knowledgeable about Turkish history. The hot-air balloon ride at sunrise in Cappadocia was the highlight of our trip. Everything was perfectly organized — from airport pick-up to the last d...
Ender was our Italian-speaking guide and we felt like family. He took us to local spots tourists never see. The hotel choice in Sultanahmet was perfect for walking everywhere.
10+ years later we still talk about our Cappadocia balloon ride and the Bosphorus sunset cruise. Some memories are timeless. Thank you Inca Tour!
