The day opens at Uçhisar Castle, the tallest rock outcrop in Cappadocia, whose summit looks out over Pigeon Valley, Ortahisar, Göreme and the plains towards Avanos. Next comes the UNESCO-listed Göreme Open Air Museum, a monastic settlement used from the 4th to the 13th century, where chapels and refectories carved into the rock preserve frescoes and secco paintings of Biblical scenes. You then walk among the multi-capped chimneys of Paşabağ, also called the Valley of the Monks, and pass through Çavuşin, before stopping for lunch at a local restaurant.

In the afternoon your guide leads you to an Avanos pottery workshop, where artisans shape clay on the kick wheel and you can try it yourself. Devrent Valley, nicknamed Imagination or Dream Valley, follows with rock forms resembling animals and people, and the 4.9-km Love Valley adds vineyards, orchards and some of the tallest pillars in the area.
