This daily Konya tour to the Mevlana Museum and Sille Aya Helena Church follows two faiths that shaped the city: the Sufi legacy of Rumi and the early Christian heritage of the old village of Sille. Starting from Konya with hotel pickup, the guided daily excursion also includes lunch at a traditional restaurant and a panoramic drive through the Meram district.
The day opens at the Mevlana Museum, the tomb of the 13th-century mystic poet Rumi, also called Mevlana. The complex was once the tekke of the Mevlevi order, known around the world as the Whirling Dervishes. Your guide shows you the sections open to visitors: the Matbah where novices served in the kitchen, the tombs, the Tilavet chamber for Quran recitation and the Sema-Hane, the ritual hall of the whirling ceremony. Next door, the Selimiye Mosque was commissioned by Selim II; building began in 1558 when he was a prince and finished in 1567, shortly after he became sultan.
In the afternoon this Konya day tour moves on to Meram for a panoramic drive, then to Sille, a village where Christians and Muslims lived side by side for centuries. The Aya Helena Church is built of neatly cut local Sille stone, with rock-carved rooms in its courtyard and an outer narthex entered from the north door. Tradition says that in 327 AD Helena, mother of the Byzantine emperor, passed through Konya on her pilgrimage to Jerusalem, saw the early Christian rock-cut temples and decided to found a church here, attending the foundation ceremony herself; it was dedicated to the Archangel Michael. Restored many times over the centuries, the building still carries a repair inscription in Turkish written in Greek letters. The pace is easy and suits all ages, making it a well-rounded daily tour from Konya.

Mevlana Museum, Meram & Sille Programme After pickup from your hotel in Konya, you drive to the city centre to visit the Mevlana Museum, the mausoleum of Rumi and once the lodge of the Mevlevi dervishes. Guided by your tour leader, you explore every section open to the public: the Matbah kitchen, the tombs, the Tilavet chamber where the Quran was recited and the Sema-Hane hall of the whirling ceremony. You then walk next door to the Selimiye Mosque, an Ottoman mosque started for the future Sultan Selim II in 1558 and finished in 1567. Lunch follows at an authentic local restaurant. In the afternoon you enjoy a panoramic drive around Meram before continuing to the historic village of Sille and its Aya Helena Church, a stone building with rock-cut rooms in its courtyard, traditionally linked to Empress Helena's visit in 327 AD. Your guide explains the church's long history of repairs and the unusual inscription in Turkish written with Greek letters. At the end of the programme you are dropped off at your hotel or at Konya Airport.

My husband and I chose Inca Tour for our honeymoon and we are so glad we did. The boutique hotel selection was beautiful and the Bosphorus dinner cruise was so romantic. Thank you for making our trip special!
It was important for us to have a guide who spoke Russian, and Ender was wonderful. He explained every detail at Dolmabahce Palace. The Princes Islands day trip was a beautiful break from the busy city.
Our guide Ender was incredibly knowledgeable about Turkish history. The hot-air balloon ride at sunrise in Cappadocia was the highlight of our trip. Everything was perfectly organized — from airport pick-up to the last d...
Ender was our Italian-speaking guide and we felt like family. He took us to local spots tourists never see. The hotel choice in Sultanahmet was perfect for walking everywhere.
10+ years later we still talk about our Cappadocia balloon ride and the Bosphorus sunset cruise. Some memories are timeless. Thank you Inca Tour!
