This daily Mevlana Museum and Meke Crater Lake tour from Konya pairs the city's most important spiritual monument with one of the most unusual natural landscapes in Central Anatolia. A professional English-speaking guide, comfortable transport with hotel pickup and lunch in a traditional restaurant make it an easy and well-paced day tour and a complete daily Konya tour.
The Mevlana Museum holds the tomb of Jalal ad-Din Muhammad Rumi, the Sufi mystic known as Mevlana, and was the tekke of the Mevlevi order. On this daily excursion you walk through every open section: the Matbah, where novice dervishes were trained in the kitchen, the Tilavet Chamber used for Quran recitation and chanting, and the Sema-Hane where the whirling ceremony took place. Next door stands the Selimiye Mosque, begun in 1558 while Selim was still a prince and completed in 1567 after he became sultan.
In the afternoon the road leads to the Karapinar plain and Meke Crater Lake. The site formed in two stages: a volcanic explosion first opened a wide crater that filled with water, and later a cone of rhyolite and basalt debris built up in the middle. Today this dark hill rises about 140 metres above the lake, whose water is about 12 metres deep, creating a striking photo stop.
Good to know: the day suits all ages and involves only light walking. Bring a hat and water for the crater, and dress modestly for the museum and mosque.

Mevlana Museum & Meke Crater Lake Programme The day begins with a pickup from your hotel in Konya or from Konya Airport, followed by a short drive into the city centre and the Mevlana Museum. Here your guide introduces Rumi, the Sufi mystic also called Mevlana, and the Mevlevi order of Whirling Dervishes who once lived in this lodge. You explore all the sections open to visitors, including the Matbah kitchen, the tombs, the Tilavet Chamber where the Quran was recited and chanted, and the Sema-Hane, the hall of the whirling ritual. Just beside the museum you step into the Selimiye Mosque, an Ottoman building commissioned by Sultan Selim II, begun in 1558 and finished in 1567. Lunch is served in an authentic local restaurant. Afterwards you enjoy a panoramic drive through Meram, Konya's leafy residential district, before continuing to the Karapinar area and Meke Crater Lake. At the lakeshore your guide explains how a volcanic blast created the crater and how a cone of rhyolite and basalt later rose from the water to about 140 metres above its surface. After time for photos, you are driven back and dropped off at your hotel, bringing the tour to a close.

My husband and I chose Inca Tour for our honeymoon and we are so glad we did. The boutique hotel selection was beautiful and the Bosphorus dinner cruise was so romantic. Thank you for making our trip special!
It was important for us to have a guide who spoke Russian, and Ender was wonderful. He explained every detail at Dolmabahce Palace. The Princes Islands day trip was a beautiful break from the busy city.
Our guide Ender was incredibly knowledgeable about Turkish history. The hot-air balloon ride at sunrise in Cappadocia was the highlight of our trip. Everything was perfectly organized — from airport pick-up to the last d...
Ender was our Italian-speaking guide and we felt like family. He took us to local spots tourists never see. The hotel choice in Sultanahmet was perfect for walking everywhere.
10+ years later we still talk about our Cappadocia balloon ride and the Bosphorus sunset cruise. Some memories are timeless. Thank you Inca Tour!
