This daily Izmir tour from Didim takes you north along the Aegean coast to Turkey's third-largest city, where the layers of ancient Smyrna, Ottoman trading life and a modern seafront sit side by side. Led by a professional English-speaking guide, the day tour blends hilltop views, a Roman-era marketplace and the lively lanes of one of the country's great open-air bazaars, with lunch and all listed entrance fees included.
Mount Pagus, known today as Kadifekale, is where Smyrna was refounded in the Hellenistic period, and its fortress walls still crown the hill. Below it lies the Agora, the public square where citizens once traded, met and settled disputes; its restored columns and vaulted basement galleries give a vivid sense of Roman Smyrna. From here the walk continues into Kemeralti, a historic bazaar quarter whose streets pass old synagogues, food stalls and the Hisaronu Mosque before reaching Kizlaragasi Hani, an Ottoman inn built in the 1700s that now houses small handicraft shops.
The Clock Tower in Konak Square, presented to the city in the early 20th century, is the best-known symbol of Izmir, and the nearby seafront is a pleasant place to pause. The last visit is the Historical Elevator, a landmark lift built to connect a lower and an upper neighbourhood, whose terrace offers a lovely panorama of the bay.
This daily excursion starts with an 8:30 am pickup from your hotel or a meeting point in Didim and ends with a drop-off back at your hotel. Travel is in an air-conditioned, non-smoking vehicle; wear comfortable shoes, as the bazaar section is explored on foot.

Izmir & Ancient Smyrna Programme Your guide collects you at around 8:30 am from your hotel or an agreed meeting point in Didim, and the drive heads north towards Izmir. The first visit is Mount Pagus, today called Kadifekale, a citadel hill that gives a broad view over the city and its gulf. Next comes the Agora, part of the ancient site of Smyrna, where your guide explains how the marketplace shaped civic life in Roman times. From there you continue on foot into Kemeralti, one of the largest open bazaars in Turkey, strolling along the old synagogue street and through the fish and vegetable market until you reach the Hisaronu Mosque, where there is time for a short break. The walk then leads to Kizlaragasi Hani, an 18th-century inn whose courtyard shops sell local crafts and souvenirs. A short stroll brings you to the Clock Tower in Konak, the city's most famous landmark, with time to enjoy the square and the nearby seafront. Lunch is included during the day. A brief drive takes you to the Historical Elevator for a final panoramic view of Izmir, after which you are driven back to your hotel in Didim.

My husband and I chose Inca Tour for our honeymoon and we are so glad we did. The boutique hotel selection was beautiful and the Bosphorus dinner cruise was so romantic. Thank you for making our trip special!
It was important for us to have a guide who spoke Russian, and Ender was wonderful. He explained every detail at Dolmabahce Palace. The Princes Islands day trip was a beautiful break from the busy city.
Our guide Ender was incredibly knowledgeable about Turkish history. The hot-air balloon ride at sunrise in Cappadocia was the highlight of our trip. Everything was perfectly organized — from airport pick-up to the last d...
Ender was our Italian-speaking guide and we felt like family. He took us to local spots tourists never see. The hotel choice in Sultanahmet was perfect for walking everywhere.
10+ years later we still talk about our Cappadocia balloon ride and the Bosphorus sunset cruise. Some memories are timeless. Thank you Inca Tour!
