The daily Teos Ancient City and Sigacik tour from Didim pairs a charming walled fishing village with one of the lesser-known ancient cities of the Aegean, making it a rewarding day tour for travellers who enjoy history away from the crowds. On this daily excursion you are collected at your hotel, driven north to the Izmir coast and guided through both sites before returning in the early evening.
Sigacik is a small fishing village on the Izmir coast that grew up around its Ottoman fortress. The castle, completed in 1522 during the reign of Suleyman the Magnificent, still encloses a living neighbourhood: some houses are family homes, others have become cosy restaurants. Within the walls you will find the Suleyman Han Mosque, a Turkish bath, a medrese that once served as an Ottoman school and an old water tank. Down at the harbour, an unusual statue of Atatürk standing on a sailboat looks out to sea. Close to the castle, the Culture Museum displays ethnographic objects found in the region.
Five kilometres away lies Teos, settled as early as the 10th century BC and one of the cities of ancient Ionia. Walking through the site you will see the acropolis, the ancient theatre, sections of the city walls and the old port, and the great Temple of Dionysus, one of the largest sanctuaries dedicated to the god of wine in the ancient world. Lunch is not included, so you can choose one of the many restaurants inside Sigacik Castle. As a Teos day trip it is a full but relaxed outing, and wearing comfortable shoes and a hat is recommended for the open ruins.

Sigacik & Teos Ancient City Programme After pick-up from your hotel in Didim, the drive heads north to Sigacik, a fishing village on the Izmir coast built around its castle. Your guide first leads you along the waterfront, past the fish market, the restaurants and the eye-catching statue of Atatürk standing on a sailboat facing the sea. You then enter Sigacik Castle, constructed in 1522 under Suleyman the Magnificent, and wander its restored lanes lined with stone and whitewashed houses, some still lived in and others turned into small restaurants. Inside the walls you visit the Suleyman Han Mosque, the Turkish bath, the medrese that once served as an Ottoman school and the old water tank. There is time to have lunch at your own expense at one of the eateries within the castle. Before heading to the ancient ruins, the group stops at the nearby Culture Museum to view ethnographic pieces found in the region. The tour then continues five kilometres to Teos Ancient City, inhabited since the 10th century BC, where you explore the acropolis, the ancient theatre, the city walls, the old harbour and the Temple of Dionysus. Between 17:00 and 18:00 you set off back to Didim and are dropped at your hotel.

My husband and I chose Inca Tour for our honeymoon and we are so glad we did. The boutique hotel selection was beautiful and the Bosphorus dinner cruise was so romantic. Thank you for making our trip special!
It was important for us to have a guide who spoke Russian, and Ender was wonderful. He explained every detail at Dolmabahce Palace. The Princes Islands day trip was a beautiful break from the busy city.
Our guide Ender was incredibly knowledgeable about Turkish history. The hot-air balloon ride at sunrise in Cappadocia was the highlight of our trip. Everything was perfectly organized — from airport pick-up to the last d...
Ender was our Italian-speaking guide and we felt like family. He took us to local spots tourists never see. The hotel choice in Sultanahmet was perfect for walking everywhere.
10+ years later we still talk about our Cappadocia balloon ride and the Bosphorus sunset cruise. Some memories are timeless. Thank you Inca Tour!
