Short on time in the capital? This half day Ankara city tour condenses the three landmarks every visitor should see into a single morning, with hotel pick-up in the city centre and an English-speaking guide throughout. In around four to five hours you trace Anatolia's story from prehistoric settlements to the birth of the modern Republic, and still have the afternoon free.
Established in 1921 and given its present form in 1968, the Museum of Anatolian Civilizations is one of the most acclaimed archaeological museums in Turkey. Its galleries move from Palaeolithic and Neolithic finds through the Chalcolithic Age to the Hittites, Phrygians, Urartians and Late Hittites. Just uphill, Ankara Castle is believed to go back to the Hittite era and was used by the Romans, Seljuks and Ottomans; inside its walls a small quarter of historic houses and a local market survive.
The daily tour ends at Anitkabir, the mausoleum of Mustafa Kemal Ataturk, who led the War of Independence and founded the democratic, secular Turkish Republic. Its ceremonial square, symbolic towers and museum make a fitting finale to this short daily excursion. As an Ankara day trip in miniature, the tour departs from your hotel and returns there, with entrance fees included; lunch is not part of the programme. Comfortable shoes are recommended because the castle streets are steep and cobbled. It is an efficient day tour from Ankara for business travellers and visitors with a tight schedule.

Half Day Ankara Highlights Programme Your guide meets you at your hotel in Ankara city centre between 08:30 and 09:30. The first stop is the award-winning Museum of Anatolian Civilizations, founded in 1921 and arranged in its current layout in 1968, where a chronological route leads from Palaeolithic, Neolithic and Chalcolithic finds to the remarkable collections of the Hittites, Phrygians, Urartians and Late Hittites. A short drive and walk then bring you up to Ankara Castle, one of the oldest places in the city, thought to date from the Hittite period and later used by Roman, Seljuk and Ottoman rulers. Inside the walls you can stroll among old historic houses and browse a small local market while enjoying the view across the capital. The final visit is Anitkabir, the Mausoleum of Ataturk, where you see the Hall of Honour, the tomb, the Lion's Road, the towers with their symbolic meanings and the ceremonial ground, watch the changing of the guard and explore the museum dedicated to the founder of the Republic. When the sightseeing is complete, you are driven back to your hotel, with the rest of the day at leisure.

My husband and I chose Inca Tour for our honeymoon and we are so glad we did. The boutique hotel selection was beautiful and the Bosphorus dinner cruise was so romantic. Thank you for making our trip special!
It was important for us to have a guide who spoke Russian, and Ender was wonderful. He explained every detail at Dolmabahce Palace. The Princes Islands day trip was a beautiful break from the busy city.
Our guide Ender was incredibly knowledgeable about Turkish history. The hot-air balloon ride at sunrise in Cappadocia was the highlight of our trip. Everything was perfectly organized — from airport pick-up to the last d...
Ender was our Italian-speaking guide and we felt like family. He took us to local spots tourists never see. The hotel choice in Sultanahmet was perfect for walking everywhere.
10+ years later we still talk about our Cappadocia balloon ride and the Bosphorus sunset cruise. Some memories are timeless. Thank you Inca Tour!
