This daily Ankara city tour from Kirikkale brings you to the Turkish capital, about an hour and a half away, for a guided day that spans ten thousand years of Anatolian history – from Stone Age finds and Hittite reliefs to the monumental resting place of Mustafa Kemal Ataturk. Transfers from and back to your hotel in Kirikkale are arranged, so the full day tour is simply about seeing and learning.
Founded in 1921 and housed since 1968 in a restored Ottoman covered market and caravanserai, the Museum of Anatolian Civilizations traces human life in Anatolia from the Palaeolithic and Neolithic ages through the Chalcolithic period to the great Hittite, Phrygian and Urartian kingdoms. Above the old town rises Ankara Castle, whose origins are thought to reach back to the late Hittite period and which was later used by Romans, Seljuks and Ottomans. The Temple of Augustus, built by the Romans between 25 and 20 BC and later converted into a basilica, preserves one of the best-known inscriptions of the ancient world, and the Haci Bayram Mosque stands right beside it.
In the afternoon this daily excursion continues to Anitkabir, the mausoleum of Ataturk, who led the War of Independence and founded the secular Turkish Republic. Its ceremonial square, symbolic towers and changing of the guard leave a strong impression. There is free time for lunch, and the physical level is relaxed, making this Ankara day trip suitable for most travellers.

Ankara City Tour Programme You are collected from your hotel in Kirikkale and driven roughly one and a half hours west to Ankara. The first visit is the Museum of Anatolian Civilizations, where your English-speaking guide leads you through finds from the Palaeolithic, Neolithic and Chalcolithic ages and into the remarkable galleries of the Hittites, Phrygians, Urartians and Late Hittites. A short drive brings you up to Ankara Castle, one of the oldest places in the city, believed to go back to the late Hittite era and later used by Roman, Seljuk and Ottoman rulers; inside its walls you can wander between historic houses and a small local market. Next comes the Temple of Augustus, also called the Monumentum Ancyranum, a Roman sanctuary of 25 to 20 BC known for its inscriptions and later turned into a church, together with the neighbouring Haci Bayram Mosque. After a break for lunch you visit Anitkabir, the Mausoleum of Ataturk, with its Lion Road, ceremonial ground, symbolic towers, Hall of Honour, museum and changing of the guard. The day ends with a stroll through the lively Kizilay district before the transfer back to your hotel in Kirikkale.

My husband and I chose Inca Tour for our honeymoon and we are so glad we did. The boutique hotel selection was beautiful and the Bosphorus dinner cruise was so romantic. Thank you for making our trip special!
It was important for us to have a guide who spoke Russian, and Ender was wonderful. He explained every detail at Dolmabahce Palace. The Princes Islands day trip was a beautiful break from the busy city.
Our guide Ender was incredibly knowledgeable about Turkish history. The hot-air balloon ride at sunrise in Cappadocia was the highlight of our trip. Everything was perfectly organized — from airport pick-up to the last d...
Ender was our Italian-speaking guide and we felt like family. He took us to local spots tourists never see. The hotel choice in Sultanahmet was perfect for walking everywhere.
10+ years later we still talk about our Cappadocia balloon ride and the Bosphorus sunset cruise. Some memories are timeless. Thank you Inca Tour!
