After breakfast you set out on a full guided tour of the historic peninsula. You explore Topkapı Palace, home of the Ottoman sultans and their imperial treasury, then cross Sultanahmet Square to the Blue Mosque with its cascade of blue İznik tiles and the Hagia Sophia, a masterpiece of Byzantine architecture. You also see the ancient Hippodrome and its three monuments before browsing the Grand Bazaar. A lunch break is taken at leisure. Overnight in Istanbul.
This morning you board a boat for a scenic Bosphorus cruise along the strait that separates Europe and Asia, with views of the Dolmabahçe, Çırağan and Beylerbeyi palaces, the Rumeli Fortress and the elegant Ortaköy waterfront. You continue up to Çamlıca Hill, the highest point in the city, for a sweeping panorama, with a stop at a traditional Turkish crafts and carpet-weaving centre. Overnight in Istanbul.
