15 Days Turkey Cultural & Historical Heritage Tour: Ankara to Mount Nemrut and Cappadocia Private Tour
Highlights of the Turkey Cultural & Historical Heritage Tour
This 15-day private journey crosses almost the whole of Anatolia, from the capital Ankara to the Black Sea coast, the high plateaus of the east, Upper Mesopotamia and finally Cappadocia. It starts with the Museum of Anatolian Civilizations, the old quarter of Ankara and the Ataturk Mausoleum, then heads to Hattusa, the Hittite capital with its Lion Gate and King Gate, and the rock sanctuary of Yazilikaya. In Amasya you walk along the Green River among wooden houses and rock-cut tombs of the Pontic kings before the road leads through Niksar and Ordu to Giresun, the town of cherry trees.
On the Black Sea you visit the frescoed Hagia Sophia of Trabzon and the Sumela Monastery, clinging to the cliffs above the Altindere valley near Macka. Mountain roads via Gumushane and Bayburt bring you to Erzurum and its twin-minaret medrese. The eastern section covers the medieval ruins of Ani on the Armenian border, the Cathedral of the Apostles and castle of Kars, views of Mount Ararat, the Ishak Pasha Palace near Dogubayazit, the Muradiye waterfalls, Van Fortress, the Urartian citadel of Cavustepe and the Church of the Holy Cross on Akdamar Island in Lake Van.
From Van the route runs past Tatvan and Bitlis to the Malabadi Bridge, Silvan and the troglodyte houses and castle of Hassuni, then to the black basalt walls of Diyarbakir. Mardin, Deyrulzafaran Monastery, Urfa with the Pool of Sacred Fish, and the beehive houses of Harran lead to Kahta, the base for an early ascent of Mount Nemrut and its colossal statues of the Commagene kings. You continue to Antakya (Antioch) for the Cave Church of St Peter and the Archaeological Museum, pass Daphne and Iskenderun to Tarsus, the birthplace of St Paul, and cross the Gulek Pass to Tyana and Nigde.
The last days are spent in Cappadocia with two full-day tours: Uchisar Castle, Goreme Open Air Museum, Cavusin, Avanos, Pasabag, Devrent Valley, Urgup and the Three Beauties on the Red Tour, and Derinkuyu Underground City, a hike in the Ihlara Valley, lunch at Belisirma, Selime Monastery and Pigeon Valley on the Green Tour. The price includes 14 nights of hotel accommodation, 14 breakfasts, 13 lunches and 14 dinners, a professional English-speaking guide, private air-conditioned transport, airport transfers and the entrance fees listed in the itinerary. What Our Travellers Say
Real, verified reviews from travellers who explored Turkey with us.
It was important for us to have a guide who spoke Russian, and Ender was wonderful. He explained every detail at Dolmabahce Palace. The Princes Islands day trip was a beautiful break from the busy city.
Our guide Ender was incredibly knowledgeable about Turkish history. The hot-air balloon ride at sunrise in Cappadocia was the highlight of our trip. Everything was perfectly organized — from airport pick-up to the last d...
Ender was our Italian-speaking guide and we felt like family. He took us to local spots tourists never see. The hotel choice in Sultanahmet was perfect for walking everywhere.
10+ years later we still talk about our Cappadocia balloon ride and the Bosphorus sunset cruise. Some memories are timeless. Thank you Inca Tour!
