This Dalyan classic daily tour from Dalyan packs the best of the river delta into one boat day: the Lycian rock tombs of Kaunos, the reed-fringed channels, Iztuzu Turtle Beach, the famous mud baths and a freshwater swim in Koycegiz Lake. It is the most complete way to discover the area on a single day trip, mixing history, nature and plenty of time in the water.
The temple-fronted rock tombs above the Dalyan River were cut into the cliff face by the people of ancient Kaunos, a harbour city on the border of Caria and Lycia, to honour their rulers and nobles. Nearby, the ruins of Kaunos itself include a Roman theatre, city walls, baths and an agora. Downstream, the river meets the sea at Iztuzu Beach, a long sandy barrier where loggerhead turtles (Caretta caretta) nest every summer; from the boat you may even spot one in the delta.
The mud baths are fed by warm mineral springs: you cover yourself in mud, let it dry, then rinse off in the thermal pool before a refreshing dip in the fresh water of Lake Koycegiz. The tour runs seasonally, usually from April to October, and is suitable for guests aged 11 and over. Wear a swimsuit, bring a towel, sunscreen, a hat and water.
As a daily excursion it suits families, couples and solo travellers looking for a full Dalyan day trip.

Dalyan River, Iztuzu Beach & Mud Baths Programme At 10:30 you are collected from your hotel or meeting point in Dalyan or a nearby village, meet your guide and step aboard a traditional river boat. The first stop is beneath the Lycian rock tombs, the monumental graves hewn into the rock face over the water by the people of ancient Kaunos. The boat then winds through the quiet reed beds of the delta, where fresh blue crabs can be tried as an optional extra and sea turtles are sometimes seen surfacing. At Iztuzu Beach, the protected turtle nesting site, you have about two hours to swim, sunbathe and walk along the sand. Lunch follows at a riverside restaurant, with four Turkish mezes, a side of rice or pasta, a salad and a main course of grilled fish, chicken or a vegetarian dish. Next come the Dalyan Mud Baths, where you coat yourself in mud, shower it off and soak in the thermal pool, followed by a cooling freshwater swim in Lake Koycegiz. If you wish, a short late-afternoon walk through the ruins of Kaunos can be added, timed to avoid the midday heat. Around 18:30 the boat returns to Dalyan and you are transferred back to your hotel.

My husband and I chose Inca Tour for our honeymoon and we are so glad we did. The boutique hotel selection was beautiful and the Bosphorus dinner cruise was so romantic. Thank you for making our trip special!
It was important for us to have a guide who spoke Russian, and Ender was wonderful. He explained every detail at Dolmabahce Palace. The Princes Islands day trip was a beautiful break from the busy city.
Our guide Ender was incredibly knowledgeable about Turkish history. The hot-air balloon ride at sunrise in Cappadocia was the highlight of our trip. Everything was perfectly organized — from airport pick-up to the last d...
Ender was our Italian-speaking guide and we felt like family. He took us to local spots tourists never see. The hotel choice in Sultanahmet was perfect for walking everywhere.
10+ years later we still talk about our Cappadocia balloon ride and the Bosphorus sunset cruise. Some memories are timeless. Thank you Inca Tour!
