From the ruins of Ephesus and the pilgrimage site of the House of the Virgin Mary, you travel down to Marmaris for a jeep safari and boat tour, then to Dalyan, Ölüdeniz and Fethiye.
The route follows the ancient Lycian Way through Patara, Xanthos and Kaş, sails to the Sunken City of Kekova and the church of St Nicholas at Myra, and finishes inland at the dazzling travertines of Pamukkale with the ancient cities of Laodicea and Sardis. On arrival you are met at Izmir Airport and transferred to your hotel in the city centre, near the lively Alsancak shopping district. After some rest you are free to explore. Dinner and overnight in Izmir. (Late arrivals may be accommodated in Kuşadası.)
After breakfast you tour Ephesus — Harbour and Marble Streets, the Grand Theatre, the Hercules Gate, the Celsus Library and Temple of Hadrian, the State Agora and Odeon — followed by the House of the Virgin Mary and the Temple of Artemis, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. After lunch and a visit to a leather outlet you transfer to Marmaris. Dinner and overnight in Marmaris.
A full day of adventure: a morning jeep safari through green forests and mountain villages, an afternoon boat tour with swimming stops and a visit to Sedir Island (lunch on board), and a rejuvenating Turkish bath. Dinner and overnight in Marmaris.
You take a boat ride through the reed-lined channels of Dalyan to see the Kaunos rock tombs and relax on Iztuzu (Caretta) beach, with the option of a thermal mud bath. Continuing to Fethiye you see the Amyntas rock tombs, the Kayaköy ghost village and the turquoise Ölüdeniz Blue Lagoon. Dinner and overnight in Fethiye.
You explore Xanthos, an ancient Lycian capital, then Patara with its 18 km beach, ancient theatre, triumphal arch, lighthouse and the ruins of one of the world's first parliament buildings — also a protected turtle nesting site. You continue to the lively seaside town of Kaş. Dinner and overnight in Kaş.
A morning boat tour takes in the Sunken City of Kekova and the ruins of Simena Castle, with a chance to swim among submerged relics. In the afternoon you visit the ancient city of Myra and the Church of St Nicholas, then transfer to Pamukkale. Dinner and overnight in a thermal hotel in Pamukkale.
You visit Hierapolis with Cleopatra's Pool (optional swim), the white travertine terraces of Pamukkale and the Martyrium of St Philip. After lunch you see Laodicea and Sardis, the Lydian capital where the first coins were minted in the 7th century BC, then return to Izmir for a short city tour and the Kemeraltı bazaar. Dinner and overnight in Izmir.
After breakfast you have free time before your transfer to Izmir Airport, where the tour concludes. Have a safe flight home.
