The tour begins with three days in Istanbul: a classic city tour of Topkapı Palace, Sultanahmet with the Blue Mosque and Hagia Sophia, and the ancient Hippodrome; a Bosphorus cruise past the Ottoman palaces; and the panorama from Çamlıca Hill. You then cross to Bursa, the first Ottoman capital, to see the twenty-domed Ulu Cami, the Green Mosque and Green Tomb and the storybook village of Cumalıkızık.
Heading to the Aegean you tour Ephesus near Kuşadası, with a free day for the beach, then explore the Ionian trio of Priene, with its Temple of Athena, Miletus, the city of philosophers, and Didyma with its colossal Temple of Apollo. On the coast, Bodrum offers a picnic boat cruise to hidden bays and free time around its castle and marina; Marmaris adds another beach base; and the Dalyan river trip takes the family past the Kaunos rock tombs to İztuzu turtle beach, home of the loggerhead caretta turtles. You visit Topkapı Palace, the Ottoman sultans' residence, Sultanahmet Square with the Blue Mosque and Hagia Sophia, and the Hippodrome with its Egyptian obelisk and serpent column. You cruise the Bosphorus between two continents, passing the Dolmabahçe, Çırağan and Beylerbeyi palaces, Rumeli Fortress and Ortaköy. You then drive up Çamlıca Hill, the highest point in the city, for a panorama over the strait, with free time for shopping. Overnight in Istanbul.
You travel to Bursa, the first capital of the Ottoman Empire. You visit the twenty-domed Ulu Cami (Grand Mosque), the tiled Green Mosque and Green Tomb, and wander the UNESCO-listed Ottoman village of Cumalıkızık with its colourful timber houses. Dinner and overnight in Bursa.
An early start brings you to Ephesus, one of the best-preserved ancient cities in the Mediterranean. With your guide you walk the marble streets past the Library of Celsus and the Great Theatre, and visit a traditional carpet-weaving centre, before transferring to your hotel in the seaside resort of Kuşadası. Dinner and overnight in Kuşadası.
A free day on the Aegean coast. Enjoy the beach and the sea, explore the town and its markets, or take an optional outing such as an aqua park, a boat trip, or a visit to the wine village of Şirince. Dinner and overnight in Kuşadası.
A day among the Ionian cities of the Meander. At Priene, set on a mountain terrace, you see the Temple of Athena, the agora and the council house; at Miletus, the city of Thales and the early philosophers, you visit the great theatre; and at Didyma you stand before the colossal Temple of Apollo, one of antiquity's largest oracle sanctuaries. You continue to Bodrum. Dinner and overnight in Bodrum.
A relaxing day on the water. You cruise the turquoise bays of the Bodrum peninsula, swimming and snorkelling in clear coves, stopping at Black Island with its warm mineral grotto, and enjoying lunch on board before returning in the late afternoon. Dinner and overnight in Bodrum.
A free day in Bodrum. Relax on the beach, visit the castle of the Knights of St John and the marina, browse the markets, or take an optional excursion such as a day trip to the Greek island of Kos. Dinner and overnight in Bodrum.
You transfer along the coast to Marmaris, a lively bay backed by pine-covered hills. The rest of the day is free for the beach and the seafront, with optional activities on offer. Dinner and overnight in Marmaris.
A family favourite. You cruise the Dalyan river through the reed beds past the Lycian Kaunos rock tombs carved into the cliff, bathe in the famous mud baths, and reach İztuzu (Turtle) Beach, a protected nesting ground of the loggerhead caretta turtle. Dinner and overnight in Marmaris.
