St. Nicholas Island, also called Gemiler Island, lies off the coast between Fethiye and Oludeniz. In the early Byzantine period it was an important pilgrimage site, and several churches, a long covered processional way and rock-cut tombs still stand among the olive trees and pines. Many historians link the island with Saint Nicholas, the fourth-century bishop of nearby Myra whose legend later inspired the figure of Santa Claus. Walking through the ruins in the golden evening light, with the open sea on every side, is the highlight of this St. Nicholas Island day trip, which in fact unfolds in the evening.
Unlike a typical daily excursion by boat, this is not a swimming tour, although you are welcome to bring swimwear and a towel for a dip whenever the boat stops. Please note that guests meet the boat at Fethiye marina; hotel transfers are not part of the programme. Dinner is included, while drinks and alcoholic beverages are paid separately on board. Sunset Cruise to St. Nicholas Island The evening starts at Fethiye marina, where you board the boat directly; there is no pickup from or meeting at your hotel. As the boat leaves the harbour, settle in on deck and enjoy the coastline while the crew gets everything ready for the night. The cruise heads for St. Nicholas Island, and on arrival there is time to wander among the remains of its ancient churches and other historic ruins. As the sun goes down and paints the sky over the sea, the crew prepares a three-course barbecue dinner, which is served on the island. After dinner the mood turns festive with live music, so you can dance beneath the moonlight, look out for shooting stars or simply relax with your partner or family. Swimming is not part of the plan, but you may take a dip if you have brought swimwear. At the end of the evening the boat sails back and the cruise finishes at Fethiye marina.
