Highlights of the 5-Day Western Lycian Way Hiking Tour

This 5-day Lycian Way hiking tour walks the most celebrated western section of Turkey's long-distance coastal trail, from the official starting point at Ovacık near Fethiye to the Patara region, finishing with a visit to the ancient Lycian capital of Xanthos. Daily stages average around 13–14 km, your luggage is moved between overnight stops for you, and a licensed hiking guide leads the small group, so you can concentrate on cliffs, pine forests and the turquoise Mediterranean below.

After meeting at Dalaman Airport or in Fethiye, the first walk climbs the slopes of Babadağ Mountain above Ölüdeniz and the Blue Lagoon and ends in the village of Kirme, with the night spent in Faralya. Day two looks down into Butterfly Valley, home of the Jersey tiger butterfly, before descending to Kabak Valley and its refreshing waterfall, following the cliffs above Kabak Bay and climbing to Alınca, a mountain village perched high above the sea and known for some of the finest sunsets on the coast. Next comes the spectacular Seven Capes (Yedi Burunlar) section, with a rest at Yassı Kaya overlooking Paradise Bay and an overnight in sea-view eco-bungalows near Gey village, where a path drops to a secluded beach for a swim.

The fourth stage is the most demanding: after lunch in Bel village, the steep and rocky Gavurağılı descent zig-zags down to Karadere Beach close to Patara. On the last morning you explore Xanthos, a UNESCO World Heritage Site with pillar tombs, a theatre and monumental remains, and time permitting the long sandy beach and ruins of Patara before the transfer to Dalaman Airport. Accommodation alternates between hotels, a village guesthouse and bungalows, and most meals are included, making this guided hiking holiday in Turkey a well-supported way for active walkers to combine nature, village life and Lycian history.

Day 1 Arrival - Faralya 🍽 Lunch · Dinner ▾

On arrival at Dalaman Airport our team welcomes you and drives you to Fethiye; guests already staying in Fethiye are collected and join the group there. After lunch together, your guide gives a route briefing, checks equipment and explains how the daily luggage transfers work. We then head to Ovacık, the official starting point of the Lycian Way, and set off on the first walk, about 12–14 km. The trail contours along the slopes of Babadağ Mountain through fragrant pine forest, opening up wide views over the Blue Lagoon, the beach of Ölüdeniz and the rugged coastline beyond. It is an ideal introduction to the rhythm of the route, mixing stony mule paths with shaded forest tracks and quiet viewpoints. The stage ends in the traditional village of Kirme, where our vehicle meets the group and brings you to your hotel in Faralya. The evening is free to relax and enjoy the peaceful setting before dinner. Overnight in Faralya.

Day 2 Faralya - Alinca 🍽 Breakfast · Lunch · Dinner ▾

After breakfast we start walking from Faralya along the rim of Butterfly Valley, one of the best-known landmarks of the Lycian Way, where steep walls frame a small beach and the valley is home to the Jersey tiger butterfly. Ancient footpaths lead along the mountainside with the Mediterranean in view almost all day. We then descend into Kabak Valley and reach Kabak Waterfall, a cool, shaded spot where there is time to rest and refresh. A picnic lunch is served along the way. The trail continues on cliff-top paths above the turquoise waters of Kabak Bay before gradually climbing to Alınca, a quiet mountain village high above the sea that marks the entrance to the famous Seven Capes section. The total distance is about 14 km. In the evening we have dinner while watching one of the most memorable sunsets on the Turkish Mediterranean coast. Overnight in Alınca village.

Day 3 Alinca - Patara 🍽 Breakfast · Lunch · Dinner ▾

We set off directly from our lodge after breakfast onto one of the most scenic stretches of the whole Lycian Way. The path soon opens onto the Seven Capes (Yedi Burunlar), a series of headlands that drop into the sea and give dramatic, uninterrupted views along the coast. Following winding mountain trails, we descend to Yassı Kaya, a natural rest point above the crystal-clear water of Paradise Bay, and pause to enjoy the panorama. The route continues through pine woods, open meadows and farmland before reaching Gey village in time for lunch. The day covers about 14 km with roughly 320 m of ascent and is graded moderate. In the afternoon we check into charming eco-bungalows overlooking the sea; you can relax on the terrace or walk down to the secluded beach below for a swim before dinner. Overnight in an eco-bungalow at Yediburunlar.

Day 4 Patara - Xanthos 🍽 Breakfast · Lunch · Dinner ▾

After an early breakfast we continue towards the Patara region through pine forest and traditional rural landscapes. Around midday we pass through Bel village, an authentic Lycian mountain settlement, where we stop for lunch and enjoy the calm village atmosphere. The afternoon brings the most challenging and rewarding part of the trek: the famous Gavurağılı descent. This steep, rocky trail requires careful footing as it zig-zags down towards the sea, but it rewards every step with sweeping views of the Mediterranean and the untouched wilderness of the coast. The stage covers about 13 km with roughly 620 m of ascent and is graded challenging. On reaching Karadere Beach we finish the hike and transfer to our coastal accommodation, where there is time to rest, swim and share stories of the journey over a well-deserved dinner. Overnight in a bungalow at Karadere.

Day 5 Departure - Xanthos 🍽 Breakfast ▾

After breakfast we visit Xanthos, the former capital of Lycia and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, famous in antiquity for the fierce resistance of its citizens. On a gentle walk of about 4 km your guide shows you the pillar tombs, the Roman theatre and the monumental remains that reflect the power of this city and bring together the story of the Lycian civilisation you have followed all week. If flight times allow, we can also visit Patara, with its ancient ruins and one of the longest sandy beaches in Turkey. Afterwards, according to your flight schedule, we transfer you to Dalaman Airport for your departure, marking the end of your hiking adventure on the Lycian Way.
