Dalyan is a laid-back riverside town about an hour and a half from Fethiye. It began as a small fishing village and takes its name from the "dalyan", the traditional fish traps that were once set across the river. The most famous sight here is the group of Lycian Rock Tombs cut into the cliff face above the water more than two thousand years ago; their carved columns and pediments imitate temple facades and look especially striking from the deck of a boat. Further along the waterway, the sulphur mud baths are a playful highlight, as locals have long believed the warm mineral mud cleanses and refreshes the skin.

The day ends at Iztuzu Beach, a long ribbon of golden sand separating the delta from the Mediterranean. It is a protected breeding site where endangered loggerhead turtles (Caretta caretta) lay their eggs, so the beach remains natural and undeveloped. This daily excursion is recommended for ages 12 and over; bring swimwear, a towel, sun cream and clothes you do not mind getting muddy.
