This daily Pamukkale tour from Istanbul lets you see one of Turkey's best-known natural wonders without spending a night away from the city. Instead of a long overland drive, you take a short domestic flight to Denizli, explore the snow-white terraces and the ruins of Hierapolis with a professional English-speaking guide, and fly back to Istanbul the same evening. It is an easy-paced day tour for travellers with limited time who still want the full Pamukkale experience.
Arriving in Istanbul on a cruise ship? The Pamukkale Tour is one of the shore excursions we regularly arrange for cruise guests calling at the port of Istanbul. Because it runs as a private tour, we plan the timing around your ship: your guide and driver meet you at the cruise terminal, and the programme is adjusted to your all-aboard time. Tell us how many hours your ship stays in port and we will confirm that the full programme fits comfortably. Send us your ship name and the date of your call in Istanbul and we will confirm availability.
Pamukkale, whose name means cotton castle in Turkish, was formed over thousands of years as calcium-rich hot springs flowed down the hillside and left behind layers of travertine. The result is a cascade of white terraces and shallow pools that glow in the afternoon light. On the plateau above lies Hierapolis, a Greco-Roman spa city founded in the 2nd century BC that later became a prosperous Roman and early Christian centre. The monumental Domitian Gate, flanked by two round towers, once marked the main entrance, while the colonnaded street and the remains of the cathedral show how grand the city became. Nearby Karahayit is known for its reddish spring water, coloured by iron and other minerals.
The Pamukkale Museum, housed in the former Roman baths, displays sculptures, sarcophagi and everyday objects recovered from Hierapolis, giving context to the ruins you have just walked through. As a daily excursion, this Pamukkale day trip works well for anyone based in Istanbul. Please note that the domestic flights between Istanbul and Denizli Cardak Airport are not part of the package and need to be booked separately. Bring a swimsuit, a towel and comfortable footwear, as shoes must be removed on the travertines.

Pamukkale & Hierapolis Programme Your day starts with a pickup from your hotel in Istanbul and a transfer to the airport for the short domestic flight to Denizli. On arrival at Denizli Cardak Airport your guide meets you and you continue by air-conditioned vehicle to Pamukkale. The guided visit begins on the white travertine terraces, where you can walk barefoot through the shallow pools and take time to bathe in the naturally warm mineral springs. You then explore the ancient city of Hierapolis, passing through the Domitian Gate and the Colonnaded Gate and visiting the remains of the Cathedral, before seeing the Red Waters of Karahayit. After lunch, the Pamukkale Museum introduces the statues and artefacts unearthed at Hierapolis, and there is further time to enjoy the travertines and the views over the valley. In the evening you are taken back to the airport for your flight to Istanbul, where our team meets you on arrival and drives you back to your hotel.

It was important for us to have a guide who spoke Russian, and Ender was wonderful. He explained every detail at Dolmabahce Palace. The Princes Islands day trip was a beautiful break from the busy city.
Our guide Ender was incredibly knowledgeable about Turkish history. The hot-air balloon ride at sunrise in Cappadocia was the highlight of our trip. Everything was perfectly organized — from airport pick-up to the last d...
Ender was our Italian-speaking guide and we felt like family. He took us to local spots tourists never see. The hotel choice in Sultanahmet was perfect for walking everywhere.
10+ years later we still talk about our Cappadocia balloon ride and the Bosphorus sunset cruise. Some memories are timeless. Thank you Inca Tour!
