This two-day private journey from Ankara threads together two very different chapters of Anatolian history: the Bronze-Age heartland of the Hittite Empire and the Ottoman-era river city of Amasya. Travelling in a comfortable private vehicle with a professional English-speaking guide, you leave the modern capital behind and drive into the rolling steppe of north-central Turkey, where some of the oldest and most evocative archaeological sites in the country wait far from the tourist crowds. It is an ideal escape for history lovers who want depth, context and genuine atmosphere rather than a checklist.
Your first day is devoted to the Hittites. At Hattusha (Hattusa), the UNESCO World Heritage capital of the Hittite Empire near Bogazkale, you walk among massive cyclopean walls, the Great Temple, the Lion Gate and the famous tunnel that pierces the city’s ramparts. Nearby lies Yazilikaya, an open-air rock sanctuary where processions of Hittite gods and the deities of the underworld are carved in relief across sheer limestone — one of the most important religious monuments of the ancient Near East. The region around Corum, including the early Hittite site of Alacahoyuk with its celebrated Sphinx Gate, completes this remarkable picture of a vanished empire.
The second day belongs to Amasya, the homeland of the ancient geographer Strabo, cradled in a narrow gorge of the Yesilirmak (Iris) river beneath towering cliffs. You gaze up at the monumental Rock Tombs of the Pontic Kings cut high into the rock face, stroll past the elegant Ottoman Yaliboyu riverside mansions, and visit the Sehzadeler (Ottoman Princes) Museum and the Amasya Archaeology Museum, with Amasya Castle watching over it all. With one night’s hotel accommodation, meals as listed and all transfers included, this tour delivers a rich, rounded portrait of central Anatolia’s layered past.
Your full program, day by day — click a day to see every stop.
You are collected from your Ankara hotel in the morning (around 08:30–09:30) and drive north-east into the Anatolian steppe. Your first stop is Hattusha (Hattusa), the UNESCO-listed capital of the Hittite Empire, where your guide leads you through the great fortification walls, the Great Temple, the Lion Gate and the King’s Gate. You continue to the nearby rock sanctuary of Yazilikaya, with its remarkable reliefs of the twelve gods of the Hittite underworld, passing through the Corum and Bogazkale countryside. After a local lunch en route you drive on to Amasya, check in to your hotel and enjoy dinner. Overnight in Amasya.
After breakfast you explore the historic city of Amasya, set dramatically along the Yesilirmak river. You see the Rock Tombs of the Pontic Kings carved high into the cliffs, the beautifully preserved Ottoman Yaliboyu mansions lining the riverfront, the Sehzadeler (Ottoman Princes) Museum and the Amasya Archaeology Museum, with views up to Amasya Castle. After a local lunch you begin the return drive to Ankara (approximately five hours) and are dropped off at your hotel.

My husband and I chose Inca Tour for our honeymoon and we are so glad we did. The boutique hotel selection was beautiful and the Bosphorus dinner cruise was so romantic. Thank you for making our trip special!
It was important for us to have a guide who spoke Russian, and Ender was wonderful. He explained every detail at Dolmabahce Palace. The Princes Islands day trip was a beautiful break from the busy city.
Our guide Ender was incredibly knowledgeable about Turkish history. The hot-air balloon ride at sunrise in Cappadocia was the highlight of our trip. Everything was perfectly organized — from airport pick-up to the last d...
Ender was our Italian-speaking guide and we felt like family. He took us to local spots tourists never see. The hotel choice in Sultanahmet was perfect for walking everywhere.
10+ years later we still talk about our Cappadocia balloon ride and the Bosphorus sunset cruise. Some memories are timeless. Thank you Inca Tour!
