From Cappadocia
Our daily Ihlara Valley tour from Nevsehir takes you to one of the greenest corners of Cappadocia, a deep canyon where a river flows beneath cliffs filled with painted cave churches. This guided day tour combines a scenic walk along the valley floor with visits to rock-cut churches and cave dwellings, and includes hotel transfers and entrance fees.
Cappadocia's landscape owes its shape to three volcanoes, Mount Erciyes (3,917 m), Mount Hasan (3,263 m) and Mount Melendiz (2,963 m), whose eruptions laid down the soft rock that wind and water later sculpted. Its hidden valleys sheltered some of the earliest Christian communities, who carved churches into the cliffs. Ihlara was once home to monks who taught the faith in these cave churches, and most of them are still decorated inside with frescoes.
What sets Ihlara apart from other Cappadocian valleys is the Melendiz River. Rising at the village of Ihlara and flowing along the canyon floor, it feeds trees and meadows and colours the gorge in shades of blue and green. During this daily excursion you walk beside the water, climb into several cave churches and look inside rock-cut houses. The pace is relaxed, but wear comfortable walking shoes and bring water, a hat and sun cream. Lunch is not included, so carry a snack or budget for a meal on the way.

Ihlara Valley Hiking Programme The day begins with pick-up from your hotel in Nevsehir and a comfortable drive in an air-conditioned, non-smoking vehicle towards the Aksaray side of Cappadocia and the Ihlara Valley. Along the way your English-speaking guide explains how the eruptions of Mount Erciyes, Mount Hasan and Mount Melendiz created the soft rock that gave the region its valleys and fairy chimneys. On arrival you descend into the gorge, the deepest in Asia Minor, where the Melendiz River flows from the village of Ihlara along the valley floor, keeping the canyon lush and green. You then follow the path beside the water on an easy hike, stopping to step inside several cave churches once used by monks who taught Christianity here, many of them decorated with frescoes, as well as cave houses carved into the cliffs. After the walk and visits are complete, you return to the vehicle and are driven back to your hotel at the end of the day.

My husband and I chose Inca Tour for our honeymoon and we are so glad we did. The boutique hotel selection was beautiful and the Bosphorus dinner cruise was so romantic. Thank you for making our trip special!
It was important for us to have a guide who spoke Russian, and Ender was wonderful. He explained every detail at Dolmabahce Palace. The Princes Islands day trip was a beautiful break from the busy city.
Our guide Ender was incredibly knowledgeable about Turkish history. The hot-air balloon ride at sunrise in Cappadocia was the highlight of our trip. Everything was perfectly organized — from airport pick-up to the last d...
Ender was our Italian-speaking guide and we felt like family. He took us to local spots tourists never see. The hotel choice in Sultanahmet was perfect for walking everywhere.
10+ years later we still talk about our Cappadocia balloon ride and the Bosphorus sunset cruise. Some memories are timeless. Thank you Inca Tour!
