This daily Dalyan tour from Dalyan brings together the river town's most celebrated sights in one relaxed, fully guided day. Travelling by boat along the reed-lined delta, you see royal tombs cut into the cliffs, walk through an ancient harbour city, stretch out on a protected turtle-nesting beach and finish beside a large lake shaped by earthquakes thousands of years ago.
The rock tombs are the emblem of Dalyan. Carved for kings and noble families, their facades imitate small temples and were cut directly into steep rock faces – archaeologists read them as proof of how wealthy and powerful Kaunos once was. According to legend the city was founded by Kaunos, a twin son of Miletos, and in the archaic period it lay directly on the coast and served as a busy harbour.
Iztuzu Beach is open to swimmers by day, but it closes at night so that Caretta Caretta turtles, one of the oldest surviving species on Earth, can lay their eggs undisturbed; nesting takes place between May and September, so sightings are most likely in those months. Koycegiz Lake formed roughly 7,500 years ago after strong earthquakes in the eastern Mediterranean. Rivers, mountain streams, warm sulphurous springs and sea water pushed in by the tide all mix here, and its depth ranges from 20 to 60 metres. This daily excursion is an easy-paced Dalyan day trip suitable for all ages, with hotel pickup and return in Dalyan included – a gentle day tour that shows why the delta is so loved.

Kaunos, Iztuzu Beach & Koycegiz Lake Programme Your guide collects you from your hotel in Dalyan and takes you to the riverside jetty where the boats wait. The cruise first heads to the Kaunos Rock Tombs, the monumental graves carved into steep cliffs in Lycian style, where your guide explains how they were made and what they reveal about the prosperity of the ancient city. Next comes the archaeological site of Kaunos itself, a former port on the Caria-Lycia frontier, which legend credits to Kaunos, son of Miletos, in the 4th century BC; here you can walk among the ruins and enjoy views back towards the tomb-lined rock face. The boat then follows the channels to Iztuzu Beach, a protected nesting ground of the loggerhead Caretta Caretta turtle, where you have time to swim, stroll along the sand or simply relax by the sea. Lunch is included during the day. The final stop is Koycegiz Lake, a broad body of water fed by rivers, mountain streams and warm springs, where you enjoy around one hour of free time. After the programme you are transferred back to your hotel in Dalyan.

My husband and I chose Inca Tour for our honeymoon and we are so glad we did. The boutique hotel selection was beautiful and the Bosphorus dinner cruise was so romantic. Thank you for making our trip special!
It was important for us to have a guide who spoke Russian, and Ender was wonderful. He explained every detail at Dolmabahce Palace. The Princes Islands day trip was a beautiful break from the busy city.
Our guide Ender was incredibly knowledgeable about Turkish history. The hot-air balloon ride at sunrise in Cappadocia was the highlight of our trip. Everything was perfectly organized — from airport pick-up to the last d...
Ender was our Italian-speaking guide and we felt like family. He took us to local spots tourists never see. The hotel choice in Sultanahmet was perfect for walking everywhere.
10+ years later we still talk about our Cappadocia balloon ride and the Bosphorus sunset cruise. Some memories are timeless. Thank you Inca Tour!
