About The Archaeological Site of Troy

Troy is one of the most famous ancient cities in the world. The 9 layers of Troy show more than 3000 years of uninterrupted occupation and demonstrate civilizations across Anatolia, the Aegean, and the Balkans. The site served as a crucial trade and cultural hub. Settlement began in the Early Bronze Age (3000-2500 BC) and continued through the Roman period. The stratigraphy of Troy serves as a reference for European and Aegean archaeological sites. Excavations began in 1871 by Heinrich Schliemann, continuing through W. Dörpfeld and C.W. Blegen to the present day.
