On arrival at Istanbul Airport your guide meets and privately transfers you to your hotel. Istanbul, the former capital of the Byzantine, Roman and Ottoman empires, is a fascinating city spanning two continents. The rest of the day is free. Overnight in Istanbul.
A full-day guided tour of the old city: the Hippodrome with the Obelisk of Theodosius, the Serpentine Column and the Column of Constantine; the Blue Mosque with its İznik tiles; and Hagia Sophia. Overnight in Istanbul.
An early departure for the Gallipoli peninsula and the WWI battlefields: the Gabatepe Museum, Ariburnu Cemetery and Anzac Cove where the campaign began, Beach Cemetery, Lone Pine and Chunuk Bair. Overnight in Çanakkale.
You visit Troy, home of the Trojan Horse and Helen of Troy, then drive to Pergamon to tour its magnificent acropolis, whose temples and library made it a great cultural and political centre, with a short stop at a jewellery workshop en route. Arrival in Kuşadası. Overnight in Kuşadası.
A fully guided tour of Ephesus — the Temple of Artemis, Curetes Street, the Roman baths, the Celsus Library and the Grand Theatre — followed by a visit to a carpet-weaving centre and the Anatolian-Greek hill village of Şirince with its original white houses. Overnight in Kuşadası.
You drive to Pamukkale and, after lunch, visit the white calcium terraces of the “cotton castle” and the ruins of Hierapolis, with the option to bathe in the natural thermal springs, plus a stop at a textile outlet (optional tandem paragliding available). Overnight in Pamukkale.
After breakfast you transfer to Denizli Airport for your domestic flight to Istanbul and your onward journey home (an optional sunrise balloon flight over Hierapolis and the travertines is available before departure). End of the tour.
