The daily Rose and Red Valley tour is a guided walk through some of the most photogenic terrain in central Anatolia, where soft volcanic rock has been sculpted into pink and crimson ridges, hidden chapels and old cave dwellings. Hotel pick-up and return are included, and an English-speaking guide leads the way on this relaxed day tour from Cappadocia.
Rose Valley owes its name to the colour of its stone, which shifts from pale blush to deep rose depending on the hour, the season and the weather. The valley is really a network of smaller gorges: Gulludere, known for its rock-cut churches; Kizilcukur, the Red Valley, whose cliffs glow at the end of the day; Meskendir, with its narrow passages; and Zindanonu, a quieter stretch further along. Centuries ago, local communities and Christian monks carved homes, dovecotes and chapels into this tuff, and some of those cave churches still display traces of painted decoration. Walking between them gives a real sense of how people adapted to this unusual landscape.
The trails range from easy to more challenging, and the most popular route covers about 3.5 km in roughly two hours, which keeps this daily excursion comfortable for most walkers. Good footwear, sun protection and water are recommended; lunch is not part of the programme, so bring snacks or budget for a meal. For anyone planning a Cappadocia day trip that combines gentle exercise, history and photography, this daily tour is an ideal way to see the valleys up close rather than from a coach window.

Rose & Red Valley Hiking Programme The day starts with a pick-up from your hotel in an air-conditioned, non-smoking vehicle, and your English-speaking guide introduces the area as you drive to the trailhead. The walk takes you into the Rose Valley, the broad valley lying between Goreme and Cavusin, which is made up of several smaller gorges: Gulludere, Kizilcukur (the Red Valley), Meskendir and Zindanonu. As you follow the paths, the guide points out how the rock changes colour with the light and explains how these volcanic formations were shaped over time. Along the way you step inside several cave churches carved directly into the cliffs, peer into abandoned cave houses and pass through short rock-cut tunnels that once linked parts of the valley. The valley offers easy, medium and harder routes; the most common one is around 3.5 km and takes about two hours at a steady pace, with plenty of stops for photographs and explanations. Entrance fees for the sites in the programme are covered. Once the hike is complete, you are driven back to your hotel to rest or continue exploring on your own.

My husband and I chose Inca Tour for our honeymoon and we are so glad we did. The boutique hotel selection was beautiful and the Bosphorus dinner cruise was so romantic. Thank you for making our trip special!
It was important for us to have a guide who spoke Russian, and Ender was wonderful. He explained every detail at Dolmabahce Palace. The Princes Islands day trip was a beautiful break from the busy city.
Our guide Ender was incredibly knowledgeable about Turkish history. The hot-air balloon ride at sunrise in Cappadocia was the highlight of our trip. Everything was perfectly organized — from airport pick-up to the last d...
Ender was our Italian-speaking guide and we felt like family. He took us to local spots tourists never see. The hotel choice in Sultanahmet was perfect for walking everywhere.
10+ years later we still talk about our Cappadocia balloon ride and the Bosphorus sunset cruise. Some memories are timeless. Thank you Inca Tour!
