My husband and I chose Inca Tour for our honeymoon and we are so glad we did. The boutique hotel selection was beautiful and the Bosphorus dinner cruise was so romantic. Thank you for making our trip special!
From Kusadasi
This daily Bafa Lake tour from Selcuk trades busy ancient avenues for a quiet lakeside landscape where ruins, rock and water meet. Escorted by a professional English-speaking guide, with hotel pickup and return included, the day tour explores the shores of Lake Bafa and the remains of Herakleia beneath the dramatic peaks of Mount Latmos.
Cruise passengers docking in Kuşadası can book the Bafa Lake Tour as a convenient Kuşadası shore excursion during their port call. With a private vehicle and guide, the day is timed to your ship’s arrival and departure, so you can enjoy the sights without worrying about the all-aboard deadline. Tell us how many hours your ship stays in port and we will confirm that the full programme fits comfortably. Just tell us the ship and the day it calls at Kuşadası — we take care of the rest.
The Bafa Lake Tour is also arranged for visitors coming over from Samos or Patmos for the day. Catch the early ferry to Kuşadası (from Samos the ferry takes 45 minutes; from Patmos the ferry takes about 3 hours) and you will be back on the island the same evening. Our team welcomes you at the Kuşadası ferry port and makes sure the day ends in time for your return crossing. For longer itineraries we check the ferry timetable first and confirm that the full programme fits your day. Please bring your passport and check the Turkish entry requirements for your nationality before travelling.
Until Roman times the lake was the inner end of the Latmian Gulf. Silt carried by the River Meander gradually closed its mouth, and by around 400 AD the water was cut off from the open sea. Today it is mostly fresh water with a partly salty section, reaches depths of about 25 m and is home to sea bass, eels and carp. Its rich birdlife makes it a haven for birdwatchers.
Herakleia, first named Latmos after the mountain above it, lived from farming, fishing and sea trade. When the gulf silted up and its harbour lost access to the sea, the town declined. The rugged slopes have always fed the imagination: here, it is said, the moon goddess Selene put her beloved Endymion into eternal sleep so she could visit him by night. From around 700 AD hermits and monks settled on the remote slopes, leaving Byzantine monasteries and cave retreats that still draw curious visitors.
This relaxed daily excursion suits nature lovers and history fans alike. Lunch is not included, so bring water, a hat and comfortable shoes.

Bafa Lake & Herakleia Programme Your guide meets you in the lobby of your hotel in Selcuk in the morning, and you travel south in an air-conditioned vehicle to Lake Bafa. On arrival your guide explains how the lake was once the tip of a sea gulf until silt from the River Meander separated it from the Aegean around 400 AD, and why it is now partly fresh and partly salty. Time on the shore gives you the chance to look out for some of the many bird species that live here, from pelicans to storks, and to hear about the sea bass, eels and carp of the lake and the olives, cotton and honey produced on the surrounding land. The visit continues at Herakleia, the ancient town built around a harbour at the foot of Mount Latmos, which rises to 1,375 m. Among the ruins your guide recounts how the town prospered from farming, fishing and trade, how the closing of the gulf brought its decline, and the myth of Endymion, the shepherd lulled into endless sleep by the lunar goddess Selene. You also learn about the hermits and monks who kept the mountain a sacred place in Byzantine times. Lunch is at your own expense. In the afternoon you are driven back to your hotel.

My husband and I chose Inca Tour for our honeymoon and we are so glad we did. The boutique hotel selection was beautiful and the Bosphorus dinner cruise was so romantic. Thank you for making our trip special!
It was important for us to have a guide who spoke Russian, and Ender was wonderful. He explained every detail at Dolmabahce Palace. The Princes Islands day trip was a beautiful break from the busy city.
Our guide Ender was incredibly knowledgeable about Turkish history. The hot-air balloon ride at sunrise in Cappadocia was the highlight of our trip. Everything was perfectly organized — from airport pick-up to the last d...
Ender was our Italian-speaking guide and we felt like family. He took us to local spots tourists never see. The hotel choice in Sultanahmet was perfect for walking everywhere.
10+ years later we still talk about our Cappadocia balloon ride and the Bosphorus sunset cruise. Some memories are timeless. Thank you Inca Tour!
