Our daily Pamukkale tour from Aydin takes you to the dazzling white terraces of the Cotton Castle and the ancient spa city of Hierapolis in a single, well-paced day tour. A licensed English-speaking guide leads the visit, lunch is included, and you travel in an air-conditioned, non-smoking coach with hotel collection and return in Aydin.
Pamukkale owes its unreal appearance to thermal springs rising from a cliff nearly 200 metres above the plain. Water at around 35°C, rich in calcium bicarbonate, releases its carbon dioxide as it flows downhill and leaves behind layers of limestone. Over thousands of years this has shaped frozen-looking cascades, mineral formations and a stairway of shallow pools, one of the most photographed natural sights in Turkey.
Above the terraces stands Hierapolis, a spa town founded by the Attalid kings of Pergamon and later expanded by the Romans. Both the city and the travertines are inscribed together on the UNESCO World Heritage List as a mixed cultural and natural site. Its necropolis is among the largest of the ancient world, with tombs as big as small houses, while the theatre, baths and the shrine of St. Philip reveal how pilgrims and health-seekers lived here. As a daily excursion it suits families and travellers who prefer an easy pace.
Practical notes: entrance fees to the museums are covered, but the Cleopatra Pool charges a separate ticket. After the guided visit there is time to browse local crafts such as leather, textiles, onyx, jewellery or Turkish delight, before the coach heads back to Aydin in the late afternoon.
Your full day programme — click to see every stop.
Pamukkale & Hierapolis Programme Your day begins with a morning pick-up from your hotel in Aydin, followed by a comfortable coach drive inland to Pamukkale. On arrival your licensed guide introduces Hierapolis, the thermal city established by the Attalid dynasty of Pergamon, and leads you through its open-air museum. You will walk past the immense necropolis, where over 1,200 sarcophagi line the slopes, then continue to the Roman Baths, the Great Theatre, the burial place of St. Philip, the gymnasium that now houses a museum and the Temple of Apollo. Next come the famous travertines, the glistening white terraces formed by warm, mineral-rich spring water, where there is time for photos and a gentle walk. Inside the ancient city you may also choose to bathe in the Cleopatra Pool; this requires an additional ticket, and your guide can share the details. Lunch is served during the day. After the sightseeing you have some free time to look at Turkish handicrafts such as leather goods, textiles, onyx, jewellery or Turkish delight. Between roughly 15:30 and 16:30 the coach sets off back to Aydin and drops you at your hotel.

My husband and I chose Inca Tour for our honeymoon and we are so glad we did. The boutique hotel selection was beautiful and the Bosphorus dinner cruise was so romantic. Thank you for making our trip special!
It was important for us to have a guide who spoke Russian, and Ender was wonderful. He explained every detail at Dolmabahce Palace. The Princes Islands day trip was a beautiful break from the busy city.
Our guide Ender was incredibly knowledgeable about Turkish history. The hot-air balloon ride at sunrise in Cappadocia was the highlight of our trip. Everything was perfectly organized — from airport pick-up to the last d...
Ender was our Italian-speaking guide and we felt like family. He took us to local spots tourists never see. The hotel choice in Sultanahmet was perfect for walking everywhere.
10+ years later we still talk about our Cappadocia balloon ride and the Bosphorus sunset cruise. Some memories are timeless. Thank you Inca Tour!
