Our daily Ephesus and Sirince tour from Aydin combines the most complete Roman city in the eastern Mediterranean with a hillside village famous for its fruit wines. Collected from your hotel in Aydin, you spend the morning walking the marble streets of Ephesus with an English-speaking guide, then continue to the Temple of Artemis and finish among the stone houses of Sirince.
Ephesus reflects three great eras at once: Hellenistic, Roman Imperial and early Christian. It was home to one of the Seven Churches of Revelation, and the Apostle Paul is believed to have lived here for around two and a half years during his third missionary journey. On this day tour you enter the upper city by the Odeon and the State Agora, pass the Prytaneion, the Memmius Monument, the Temple of Domitian and the Gate of Hercules, then descend Curetes Street past the Temple of Hadrian and the public latrines to the magnificent facade of the Library of Celsus. The walk continues along the Marble Road to the Commercial Agora, the Great Theatre and the Arcadian Way, the colonnaded street that once led to the harbour.
Little remains of the Temple of Artemis today beyond a single re-erected column, yet the site evokes a sanctuary that was among the largest buildings of antiquity. Sirince, 7 km from Ephesus in the hills above Selcuk, was once a Greek village; after the population exchange that followed the Turkish War of Independence it was settled by Turkish families. Its whitewashed houses, cobbled lanes and the churches of St John the Baptist and St Dimitrios make it a delightful stop, and local fruit wines can be sampled during free time.
Practical notes: entry to the Terrace Houses in Ephesus is not included. This Ephesus day trip is a relaxed daily excursion with plenty of walking on uneven marble, so wear comfortable shoes and bring a hat.

Ephesus & Sirince Programme Your guide meets you in the lobby of your hotel in Aydin in the morning, and the air-conditioned vehicle sets off for the ancient city of Ephesus. Over about two hours you explore the site on foot, starting with the Odeon, the State Agora and the Prytaneion, then passing the Memmius Monument, the Temple of Domitian and the Gate of Hercules before walking down Curetes Street to the Temple of Hadrian, the latrines and the Library of Celsus. The route continues along the Marble Road past the Commercial Agora to the Great Theatre and the Arcadian Way. After the visit there is a break for lunch, followed by a stop at a carpet weaving centre where one of Turkey's oldest crafts is still practised. Next comes the Temple of Artemis, where your guide gives a short introduction to this wonder of the ancient world. You then drive up to Sirince village for free time among its old houses and an opportunity to taste the local fruit wines. On the way back you call at a leather production centre known in the region, and between 17:00 and 18:00 the group departs for Aydin, where you are dropped off at your hotel.

My husband and I chose Inca Tour for our honeymoon and we are so glad we did. The boutique hotel selection was beautiful and the Bosphorus dinner cruise was so romantic. Thank you for making our trip special!
It was important for us to have a guide who spoke Russian, and Ender was wonderful. He explained every detail at Dolmabahce Palace. The Princes Islands day trip was a beautiful break from the busy city.
Our guide Ender was incredibly knowledgeable about Turkish history. The hot-air balloon ride at sunrise in Cappadocia was the highlight of our trip. Everything was perfectly organized — from airport pick-up to the last d...
Ender was our Italian-speaking guide and we felt like family. He took us to local spots tourists never see. The hotel choice in Sultanahmet was perfect for walking everywhere.
10+ years later we still talk about our Cappadocia balloon ride and the Bosphorus sunset cruise. Some memories are timeless. Thank you Inca Tour!
