My husband and I chose Inca Tour for our honeymoon and we are so glad we did. The boutique hotel selection was beautiful and the Bosphorus dinner cruise was so romantic. Thank you for making our trip special!
Our daily Chimera tour from Manavgat takes you to one of the most unusual natural sights on the Turkish Riviera: the flames of Yanartas, which have been burning out of the rocky hillside for thousands of years. This guided daily tour combines a gentle uphill walk, time beside the fires and a descent toward the ancient Lycian site of Olympos, with hotel transfers in Manavgat included.
Yanartas, whose Turkish name means burning rock, is a cluster of vents where gas seeps through cracks in the stone and ignites. Scientific analysis has shown that the escaping gas is rich in methane, which is why the flames never go out. In antiquity sailors are said to have used the glow as a landmark, and the site was tied to the myth of the Chimaera, the fire-breathing creature slain by the hero Bellerophon on his winged horse Pegasus. Seeing the fires flicker between the rocks is a memorable part of this day tour, especially for families and curious travellers.
Olympos was one of the leading cities of the Lycian League, and its ruins lie scattered along a wooded valley close to the sea. The walking part of the Chimaera visit lasts about three hours in total, so comfortable shoes and water are recommended. Lunch is not included in this Chimaera day trip; entrance fees for the sites in the programme are covered, and transport is in an air-conditioned, non-smoking coach from Manavgat and back.

Chimaera Flames & Olympos Programme Your day begins with a pickup from your hotel in Manavgat, after which our air-conditioned, non-smoking coach heads west along the coast toward the Chimaera, known locally as Yanartas. Considered one of the most original sights in the region, it is reached by a walk of about an hour up the wooded slope. At roughly 350 metres above sea level you arrive at the flames themselves, small fires that burn continuously wherever natural gas escapes from the rock. Analyses have revealed a high methane content in this gas, which explains why the fires have never been extinguished. You have around an hour here with your English-speaking guide, who explains the geology and the ancient legend of the fire-breathing Chimaera while you take photographs. The descent then takes about an hour and brings you down toward Olympos, the old Lycian city hidden in the pine forest near the shore. The guided Chimaera walk lasts approximately three hours from start to finish. Afterwards the group returns to the coach for the drive back to Manavgat, and you are dropped off at your hotel.

My husband and I chose Inca Tour for our honeymoon and we are so glad we did. The boutique hotel selection was beautiful and the Bosphorus dinner cruise was so romantic. Thank you for making our trip special!
It was important for us to have a guide who spoke Russian, and Ender was wonderful. He explained every detail at Dolmabahce Palace. The Princes Islands day trip was a beautiful break from the busy city.
Our guide Ender was incredibly knowledgeable about Turkish history. The hot-air balloon ride at sunrise in Cappadocia was the highlight of our trip. Everything was perfectly organized — from airport pick-up to the last d...
Ender was our Italian-speaking guide and we felt like family. He took us to local spots tourists never see. The hotel choice in Sultanahmet was perfect for walking everywhere.
10+ years later we still talk about our Cappadocia balloon ride and the Bosphorus sunset cruise. Some memories are timeless. Thank you Inca Tour!
