Historians consider Tlos one of the most important religious centres of ancient Lycia, and according to legend it was the home of the hero Bellerophon and his winged horse Pegasus; a royal-style tomb in the necropolis is said to have been dedicated to him by the Lycians. Your guide shows you the Tlos rock tombs cut into the cliff, the Roman bath, the agora and the theatre, which together create a superb panorama for photographs.
After a break at a riverside restaurant, where you can buy lunch and relax in its shaded pavilions, the tour reaches Saklikent Canyon, whose name means hidden city. Inside the cool gorge you can wade and walk for about an hour between towering rock walls, or choose to try rafting or a zipline for extra excitement. In the afternoon you are driven back to your hotel in Oludeniz. This Lycian settlement has been inhabited for around 4,000 years and, although now in ruins, it was among the most important religious cities of Lycia. Built on a hill above the valley, it is linked in mythology with Bellerophon, who is said to have lived here with his flying horse Pegasus; the Lycians honoured him with a king-type tomb in the necropolis.
