Next is the Sultanahmet Imperial Mosque, famous as the Blue Mosque for the Iznik tiles lining its interior and set opposite Hagia Sophia, followed by the ancient Hippodrome with the Obelisk of Theodosius, the bronze Serpentine Column and the Column of Constantine.
A lunch break is included before the afternoon visit to the Spice Bazaar, a fragrant historic market selling exotic spices and herbs, baklava, Turkish delight, Turkish coffee, nuts, dried fruit, olive oil soaps, ceramics and evil-eye charms at fair prices. The tour ends with a transfer to your hotel and a free evening in the city. Oludeniz to Istanbul Programme Your guide meets you in the lobby of your Oludeniz hotel early in the morning for the drive of around 45 minutes to Dalaman Airport, where you board your domestic flight to Istanbul. On arrival at Istanbul Airport or Sabiha Gokcen Airport, the tour vehicle takes you straight to the Sultanahmet district. The first visit is Topkapi Palace, the grand residence of the Ottoman rulers for some four hundred years, where the exhibitions include crystal, silverware and Chinese porcelain, the costumes of the sultans and their families, the celebrated jewels of the Imperial Treasury, delicate miniatures and the Holy Mantle chambers with relics of the Prophet Muhammad. You then cross to the Sultanahmet Imperial Mosque, the Blue Mosque, opposite Hagia Sophia, admired for the blue Iznik tiles that decorate its interior. Nearby, the ancient Hippodrome, once filled with chariot races, still holds the Obelisk of Theodosius, the bronze Serpentine Column and the Column of Constantine. After lunch the group continues to the Spice Bazaar, a lively covered market where stalls are stacked with spices, herbs, baklava, Turkish delight, coffee, nuts, fruit, natural olive oil soaps, ceramic handicrafts and evil-eye souvenirs. At the end of the tour you are transferred to your hotel in Istanbul, and the rest of the evening is free to enjoy the city.
