The session opens with classical massage, often called Swedish massage, although it was actually shaped by the Dutch practitioner Johan Georg Mezger. Its technique rests on long gliding strokes (effleurage), rubbing (friction), kneading (petrissage), light rhythmic tapping (tapotement) and gentle shaking. Originally used to improve circulation and ease pain, it is now valued above all for releasing stress and muscle tension.

Next comes the Indian head massage, a technique handed down through generations in India, where it even plays a part in family ceremonies. Focused on the scalp and face, and sometimes the neck, shoulders and arms, it encourages blood flow to a tense scalp and works the pressure points on the forehead and around the eyes, which many guests find helpful for headaches and tired eyes.
