Step back into the Roman world on this shared Aphrodisias ancient city tour from Pamukkale, a great-value small-group day excursion to one of the best-preserved classical cities in Turkey and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Dedicated to Aphrodite, the goddess of love, Aphrodisias flourished as a renowned centre of marble sculpture, and its temple, stadium, theatre and museum survive in extraordinary completeness. Travelling with a friendly group and an English-speaking guide, you set off after a morning pick-up for a scenic 1.5-hour drive through the southwestern Turkish countryside, immersing yourself in marble streets, monumental gateways and some of the finest ancient statuary ever found.
Leaving Pamukkale and Karahayit behind, you drive about an hour and a half through rolling countryside to reach Aphrodisias, hidden among poplar groves in the valley of the Morsynus river. With your guide you walk through the monumental Tetrapylon, the gateway that welcomed pilgrims to the Temple of Aphrodite, and explore the Sebasteion with its extraordinary reliefs, the Bouleuterion or Council House, the Baths of Hadrian, the Agora and the Roman Theatre. The vast Stadium, remarkably intact, still seems ready to receive its thirty thousand spectators.
Aphrodisias was famous throughout the Roman Empire for its school of marble sculpture, carved from the brilliant white and blue-grey stone of the quarries on the hillside above the city, and the on-site Aphrodisias Museum displays masterpieces brought to light by the long excavations led by Professor Kenan Erim. After free time for photographs and a visit to a traditional Turkish carpet-weaving cooperative, where you learn about the age-old art of handwoven carpets, you are driven back through the countryside to your hotel in Pamukkale, arriving in the late afternoon.

My husband and I chose Inca Tour for our honeymoon and we are so glad we did. The boutique hotel selection was beautiful and the Bosphorus dinner cruise was so romantic. Thank you for making our trip special!
It was important for us to have a guide who spoke Russian, and Ender was wonderful. He explained every detail at Dolmabahce Palace. The Princes Islands day trip was a beautiful break from the busy city.
Our guide Ender was incredibly knowledgeable about Turkish history. The hot-air balloon ride at sunrise in Cappadocia was the highlight of our trip. Everything was perfectly organized — from airport pick-up to the last d...
Ender was our Italian-speaking guide and we felt like family. He took us to local spots tourists never see. The hotel choice in Sultanahmet was perfect for walking everywhere.
10+ years later we still talk about our Cappadocia balloon ride and the Bosphorus sunset cruise. Some memories are timeless. Thank you Inca Tour!
