From Sirnak
This daily Sirnak tour visits the Bazebde and Kasrik ruins, two little-known ancient sites near Cizre in south-eastern Turkey. Hotel pick-up and an English-speaking guide are included. Far from the usual tourist trail, the region rewards curious travellers with pre-Christian settlements, ancient waterworks and stories that span Mesopotamian kingdoms, Roman frontiers and the local Kurdish emirates. Throughout the day your guide shares the legends, history and everyday culture of Sirnak province, giving context to sites that few visitors ever see.
Bazebde lies on the edge of the Cizre district, on the banks of the Tigris River, and dates back to the centuries before Christ. When the river shifted its course, the ancient city ended up right on the Syrian border; today you can still trace ruins from its earliest period and a historic bridge that once carried traffic across the water. The Kasrik Ruins sit about 30 km along the Sirnak-Cizre highway in a narrow strait. Known as Sazirka in the time of the Guti, the site preserves historic water dams, carved sculptures and the remains of a settlement, and it later served as the summer residence of the Beys of Cizre and Finik, who came here to escape the lowland heat.
This day trip from Sirnak starts with an 08:30 pick-up from your hotel and returns you between about 17:00 and 18:00, travelling in an air-conditioned vehicle with all entrance fees covered. Lunch is not included, so you are free to choose a local restaurant on the way. It is an ideal daily excursion from Sirnak for travellers interested in ancient Mesopotamia, frontier history and the authentic landscapes of the upper Tigris, and it can be booked as a private tour.

Sirnak Ruins Programme Your guide and driver collect you from your hotel in Sirnak at 08:30 for a day dedicated to the province's ancient heritage. As you drive through the rugged landscape, the guide introduces the history and culture of the area, from early Mesopotamian peoples to the local emirates of later centuries. The first major stop is the Bazebde Ruins on the border of the Cizre district, a settlement that predates the Christian era and grew up on the banks of the Tigris River. Because the river later changed its bed, the ancient city now lies directly on the Syrian frontier. Walk among the remains of its earliest phase and see the historic bridge that once spanned the river. The route then turns to the Kasrik Ruins, located around the 30th kilometre of the Sirnak-Cizre highway inside a narrow strait. Called Sazirka during the Guti period, the site holds historic water dams, sculptures and the ruins of a town, and it is known that the Beys of Cizre and Finik used the valley as their summer residence. Time is allowed for photographs and a lunch break at your own expense. Between about 17:00 and 18:00 you set off back to Sirnak and are dropped off at your hotel.

My husband and I chose Inca Tour for our honeymoon and we are so glad we did. The boutique hotel selection was beautiful and the Bosphorus dinner cruise was so romantic. Thank you for making our trip special!
It was important for us to have a guide who spoke Russian, and Ender was wonderful. He explained every detail at Dolmabahce Palace. The Princes Islands day trip was a beautiful break from the busy city.
Our guide Ender was incredibly knowledgeable about Turkish history. The hot-air balloon ride at sunrise in Cappadocia was the highlight of our trip. Everything was perfectly organized — from airport pick-up to the last d...
Ender was our Italian-speaking guide and we felt like family. He took us to local spots tourists never see. The hotel choice in Sultanahmet was perfect for walking everywhere.
10+ years later we still talk about our Cappadocia balloon ride and the Bosphorus sunset cruise. Some memories are timeless. Thank you Inca Tour!
