From Antakya
Discover one of the oldest and most cosmopolitan cities in the Mediterranean on this full-day Antakya city tour, a private day out through the mosaics, mosques, churches and waterfalls of ancient Antioch. Guided by a professional English-speaking guide, you explore a place where a mosque, a synagogue and a church have stood side by side for centuries, and where Christianity was first called by its name.
Antakya, the ancient Antioch-on-the-Orontes, is the capital of Hatay, Turkey's southernmost province, a border city rich in Roman, Byzantine, Seljuk and Ottoman heritage and famous for its extraordinary cuisine. Your tour begins at the Hatay Mosaic Museum, home to one of the world's finest collections of Roman and Byzantine mosaics lifted from the villas of ancient Antioch, then continues to the Habib-i Neccar Mosque, the earliest mosque in Anatolia, set among the narrow lanes of the old town where faiths have long lived side by side.
You then visit the rock-cut Church of Saint Peter, carved into the slopes of Mount Starius and revered as one of the earliest Christian places of worship, where the followers of Christ were first called Christians. The day ends amid the laurel groves and falling water of Harbiye, the ancient Daphne, before you are returned to your hotel. It is a rewarding, atmospheric day for anyone drawn to history, faith and the layered cultures of the eastern Mediterranean.

Antakya City Tour Programme You are collected from your hotel in the morning and begin at the Hatay Mosaic Museum, one of the largest mosaic museums in the world, where room after room displays the brilliant Roman and Byzantine floors of ancient Antioch. From there you head into the old town to the Habib-i Neccar Mosque, the first mosque built in Anatolia, standing in a quarter where a mosque, a synagogue and a church have coexisted for centuries — a living symbol of the city's tolerance. The tour continues to the Church of Saint Peter (Senpiyer), a cave church cut into the mountainside and honoured as the first Christian church in the world. Your final stop is the Harbiye (Daphne) Waterfall, a refreshing cascade set among laurel gardens where you can relax before returning to your hotel at the end of the day.

My husband and I chose Inca Tour for our honeymoon and we are so glad we did. The boutique hotel selection was beautiful and the Bosphorus dinner cruise was so romantic. Thank you for making our trip special!
It was important for us to have a guide who spoke Russian, and Ender was wonderful. He explained every detail at Dolmabahce Palace. The Princes Islands day trip was a beautiful break from the busy city.
Our guide Ender was incredibly knowledgeable about Turkish history. The hot-air balloon ride at sunrise in Cappadocia was the highlight of our trip. Everything was perfectly organized — from airport pick-up to the last d...
Ender was our Italian-speaking guide and we felt like family. He took us to local spots tourists never see. The hotel choice in Sultanahmet was perfect for walking everywhere.
10+ years later we still talk about our Cappadocia balloon ride and the Bosphorus sunset cruise. Some memories are timeless. Thank you Inca Tour!
