Highlights of the St. Paul’s Route

Embark on a profound 11-day journey tracing the footsteps of early history and the foundations of civilization across Turkey. This expedition begins in the imperial city of Istanbul, where you will explore the architectural marvels of the Hagia Sophia, the historic Hippodrome, the intricate blue Iznik tiles of the Blue Mosque, and the vast treasures held within the Topkapi Palace. From the Hippodrome to the bustling Grand Bazaar, witness the layers of Byzantine and Ottoman legacy that define this unique transcontinental city.

The journey continues deep into the heart of the Mediterranean, visiting Antakya (ancient Antioch) to see the St. Pierre Church, a site of immense significance in early Christian history. Traverse the scenic southern coastline, discovering the imposing crusader castles of Silifke and Korykos, the Roman mosaics of Narlikuyu, and the dramatic ruins of Anamur and Alanya. Experience the grandeur of ancient Pamphylia as you walk through the theaters and agoras of Side, Perge, and Aspendos, and stand in awe of the mountain stronghold of Termessos, a city that even Alexander the Great bypassed.

The final leg of your adventure brings you to the surreal white terraces of Pamukkale and the ancient thermal center of Hierapolis, where you can explore the Temple of Apollo and the historic necropolis. Conclude your tour with an immersive visit to the legendary ruins of Ephesus, including the Temple of Artemis, the Basilica of St. John, and the House of the Virgin Mary. This comprehensive itinerary offers a deep dive into the archaeological, spiritual, and natural wonders of Turkey, providing a seamless blend of historical discovery and coastal beauty. A domestic flight from Istanbul to Adana shortens the first long leg, Adana serves as the base for the Antakya excursion, Selcuk adds the Isa Bey Mosque, and the last night is spent on the Aegean in Kusadasi before the transfer to Izmir Airport.
