Namazgah Bastion Museum
About Namazgah Bastion Museum
The Namazgah Bastion Museum is a historical military site located in Canakkale, Turkey, near Kilitbahir Castle. The structure takes its name either from its resemblance to Islamic prayer (namazgah) structures or from soldiers who prayed collectively there during wartime. The original bastion featured 26 casemates of various sizes used for different military functions during battles, with the centrally located casemate now serving as the museum's exhibition space.
The museum displays numerous artifacts related to warfare, including war objects, photographs and drawings from historical archives, as well as pieces unearthed during archaeological excavations carried out during restoration. A 1/100 scale model of the structure welcomes visitors at the entrance. Information boards document the events that took place on and after March 18, 1915, giving the site particular significance in understanding the history of the Gallipoli campaign of the First World War.
