Licensed Tour Guides in Turkey

Turkey is one of the few countries where guiding is a protected profession. Every professional tourist guide listed here holds a licence and an ID card issued under Law No. 6326 on the Profession of Tourist Guiding, has completed university-level training in history, archaeology, art history, mythology and religions, and is a registered member of one of the regional guide chambers united under TÜREB. Only licensed guides may lead groups inside museums and archaeological sites such as Topkapı Palace, Hagia Sophia, Ephesus or the Göreme Open-Air Museum — so hiring a licensed guide is not just about better stories, it is also how a tour runs smoothly at the ticket gates.

Tour Guides for Every Destination in Turkey

Istanbul — Sultanahmet and the Old City (Hagia Sophia, the Blue Mosque, Topkapı Palace, the Basilica Cistern, the Grand Bazaar and the Spice Bazaar), Dolmabahçe Palace, Galata, Taksim, the Bosphorus cruise and the Princes' Islands.

Cappadocia — Göreme, Ürgüp, Uçhisar, Avanos, the Göreme Open-Air Museum, the underground cities of Kaymaklı and Derinkuyu, Paşabağ, Devrent and Ihlara Valley, plus the famous hot-air balloon sunrise. Day trips also reach Konya and the Mevlana Museum.

The Aegean coast — Ephesus with the House of the Virgin Mary and the Temple of Artemis, Kuşadası, Şirince, Selçuk, Izmir, Pergamon, Priene, Miletus, Didyma, Aphrodisias, Pamukkale and Hierapolis, Bodrum, Çeşme and Alaçatı.

The Mediterranean (Turquoise) coast — Antalya and Kaleiçi, Perge, Aspendos, Side, Termessos, Alanya, Kemer, Olympos, Myra and Demre, Kaş, Kekova, Fethiye, Ölüdeniz, Dalyan, Marmaris and the Lycian Way.

Marmara and Thrace — Çanakkale, the Gallipoli battlefields, Troy, Assos, Bursa, İznik, Edirne and Selimiye Mosque.

Central, Eastern and Black Sea Turkey — Ankara and the Museum of Anatolian Civilizations, Hattusa, Safranbolu, Şanlıurfa and Göbeklitepe, Mount Nemrut, Mardin and Midyat, Gaziantep, Van, Ani and Kars, Trabzon with Sumela Monastery, Uzungöl and Rize.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a licensed guide in Turkey?

Only licensed tourist guides are allowed to guide groups at museums and archaeological sites in Turkey. Independent travellers can visit on their own, but any organised guided tour must use a licensed guide.

How much does a private tour guide cost in Turkey?

Daily fees depend on the language, the destination, the season and the group size. Rare languages such as Japanese, Korean or Chinese usually cost more than English. Send a request and we will quote the exact daily fee for your dates.

Can I book a guide who speaks my language for several cities?

Yes. A guide can travel with you on a multi-day tour, for example Istanbul – Cappadocia – Ephesus – Pamukkale – Antalya, or we can arrange a local licensed guide in each destination.

Need a guide in your language?

Send us your travel dates, destination and preferred language — we will reply within 24 hours with an available licensed guide and the daily fee.
