Izmir, ancient Smyrna, is Turkey's third city and the perfect base for exploring the Aegean: a relaxed seaside metropolis with palm-lined promenades, a historic bazaar and some of the most important ancient sites in the world within a day's reach. This 3-night Izmir group tour brings together Ephesus, the white terraces of Pamukkale and the royal city of Pergamon, with every visit already organised. You are met at Izmir Adnan Menderes Airport, stay in a hand-picked central hotel and explore with a small group and a professional English-speaking guide.
Ephesus was the capital of Roman Asia and one of the largest cities of the ancient world: the Library of Celsus, the Great Theatre and the marble Curetes Street are among the finest Roman monuments anywhere. The tour also visits the House of the Virgin Mary, the Temple of Artemis – one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World – and the wine village of Şirince with its old Greek stone houses.
A full-day excursion takes you inland to Pamukkale, the "Cotton Castle", a UNESCO World Heritage Site where calcium-rich thermal springs have built brilliant white travertine terraces. Above them lies Hierapolis, the ancient Greco-Roman spa city with its monumental theatre, colonnaded street and vast necropolis, and Cleopatra's Antique Pool, where you can swim among submerged Roman columns.
You choose your hotel category: the Kaya Prestige Hotel (4★) on half board or the Ramada Plaza by Wyndham Izmir (5★) with breakfast, both in central Izmir; 3★ hotels are available on request. All prices are per person in a double room and change with the travel season; airport transfers, guided excursions, lunches on tour days and entrance fees are included. Welcome to Izmir! On arrival at Izmir Adnan Menderes Airport (ADB) you are met and transferred to your hotel. The rest of the day is free. Overnight in Izmir.
After breakfast you drive south from Izmir to Ephesus, the best-preserved Greco-Roman city in the Mediterranean. Walk down Curetes Street to the Library of Celsus and the Great Theatre, visit the House of the Virgin Mary and the Temple of Artemis, and end the day in the hillside village of Şirince, famous for its fruit wines. Lunch is included. Overnight in Izmir.
An early start for the drive inland to Pamukkale. Walk barefoot on the dazzling white travertine terraces, explore the ancient spa city of Hierapolis with its great theatre and necropolis, and – if you like – swim in Cleopatra's Antique Pool (optional, extra). Lunch is included before the drive back to Izmir. Overnight in Izmir.
Breakfast at the hotel and transfer to Izmir Adnan Menderes Airport (ADB) for your flight home. End of our services.
