A scenic 30-minute drive brings you to Donalar village, where you visit the extraordinary rock graves. Carved into the rock face and decorated with reliefs dating to the 5th century BC, this exceptional burial site leaves a lasting impression – and since it can only be reached by car or minibus, it remains blissfully free of crowds. Continuing on, you arrive in the centre of Taskopru to explore its landmarks in turn: the historical stone bridge that gave the town its name, the elegant Tas Mosque, the beautifully restored historical houses and the renovated historical ammunition building. At midday you pause for lunch and savour the delicious pit kebab (biryan kebab), a slow-cooked specialty whose fame is tied to Taskopru itself. In the afternoon, weather permitting, you travel to the Pompeiopolis excavation site, once a vital Roman military post and Anatolian provincial centre flourishing from the 1st century BC into the 2nd–3rd centuries AD.
