My husband and I chose Inca Tour for our honeymoon and we are so glad we did. The boutique hotel selection was beautiful and the Bosphorus dinner cruise was so romantic. Thank you for making our trip special!
10 Days Ancient Cities of Turkey: Izmir, Seven Churches, Ephesus, Didyma and Istanbul Private Tour
Highlights of the 10-Day Ancient Cities of Turkey Tour from Izmir to Istanbul
This ten-day itinerary is built for travellers who want to see the great classical and biblical cities of western Turkey in depth before ending in Istanbul. It starts in Izmir, ancient Smyrna, with a city tour that covers the Izmir Archaeology Museum, the hilltop fortress of Kadifekale, the Roman Agora, the HisarΓΆnΓΌ Mosque, the lanes of KemeraltΔ± Bazaar and the view from the historic AsansΓΆr lift down to the famous Clock Tower. From this base you travel north to Pergamum, with its steep hillside theatre, the Asklepion healing centre, the foundations of the Altar of Zeus, the Temple of Trajan and the site of the library that once rivalled Alexandria, and then to Thyatira, today Akhisar, home of Lydia the seller of purple.
The route then follows the remaining churches of the Book of Revelation. Sardis, capital of the Lydian kingdom, shows the Temple of Artemis, the restored gymnasium and synagogue and a stretch of the Persian Royal Road beside the Pactolus stream. Philadelphia, modern AlaΕehir, preserves the brick walls of a Byzantine basilica, and Laodicea on the Lycus was a rich crossroads city founded by Antiochus II. A night in a thermal hotel at Pamukkale follows the visit to Hierapolis and its white travertine terraces. Ephesus, with the Baths of Scholastica, the Library of Celsus, the Temple of Hadrian and the theatre, is combined with the Basilica of St. John and the House of the Virgin Mary, and a further day covers Priene, Miletus and the Temple of Apollo at Didyma with its colossal Medusa head.
From Izmir you fly to Istanbul for the final part of the journey. A guided walk through the historic peninsula takes in the Hippodrome, the Blue Mosque, built between 1609 and 1616, and exterior views of Hagia Sophia, the 6th-century masterpiece of Emperor Justinian, Topkapi Palace and the Basilica Cistern, with optional entry at your own expense. The next day a boat trip on the Bosphorus passes DolmabahΓ§e, ΓΔ±raΔan and Beylerbeyi palaces, OrtakΓΆy and Rumeli Fortress, followed by ΓamlΔ±ca Hill and a shopping tour. The price includes nine nights of hotel accommodation (three in Izmir, one in Pamukkale, two in Kusadasi and three in Istanbul), the meals listed, all guided tours, transfers and entrance fees in the itinerary; the domestic flight from Izmir to Istanbul is not included.

What Our Travellers Say
Real, verified reviews from travellers who explored Turkey with us.
It was important for us to have a guide who spoke Russian, and Ender was wonderful. He explained every detail at Dolmabahce Palace. The Princes Islands day trip was a beautiful break from the busy city.
Our guide Ender was incredibly knowledgeable about Turkish history. The hot-air balloon ride at sunrise in Cappadocia was the highlight of our trip. Everything was perfectly organized β from airport pick-up to the last d...
Ender was our Italian-speaking guide and we felt like family. He took us to local spots tourists never see. The hotel choice in Sultanahmet was perfect for walking everywhere.
10+ years later we still talk about our Cappadocia balloon ride and the Bosphorus sunset cruise. Some memories are timeless. Thank you Inca Tour!
