My husband and I chose Inca Tour for our honeymoon and we are so glad we did. The boutique hotel selection was beautiful and the Bosphorus dinner cruise was so romantic. Thank you for making our trip special!

About Ancient Pergamon
Pergamon rose to power after the death of Alexander the Great and under the Attalid kings became one of the cultural capitals of the Hellenistic world. Its library held some 200,000 volumes, and parchment (pergamena) took its name from the city. The great Altar of Zeus now stands in Berlin, but its foundations, the theatre for 10,000 spectators and the Asklepion, where patients were treated with water, sleep and music, still give a vivid picture of the royal city.
Getting There from Kusadasi
Bergama is about 190 km north of Kusadasi, a drive of close to three hours each way on the Izmir motorway, so departure is early. The guide uses the journey to introduce the Hellenistic kingdom of Pergamon, the invention of parchment and the city's rivalry with Alexandria.

Tour Programme ▾
Pergamon Acropolis, Asklepion & Red Basilica ProgrammeYou are collected from your hotel in Kuşadası early in the morning for the drive north past Izmir. You travel north to Bergama, the ancient Pergamon, capital of the Attalid kings and home of one of the great libraries of antiquity. The visit starts on the Acropolis, which rises about 300 metres above the town: the remains of the famous library, the foundations of the Altar of Zeus, the marble Temple of Trajan and the theatre, the steepest of the ancient world, cut into the hillside with a sweeping view over the plain. After lunch at a local restaurant you visit the Asklepion, the healing sanctuary where the physician Galen worked, with its sacred spring, the colonnaded street and the vaulted treatment tunnel. On the way back through the town you see the Red Basilica, a huge brick temple of the Egyptian gods later turned into a church and counted among the Seven Churches of Revelation. What Our Travellers Say
Real, verified reviews from travellers who explored Turkey with us.
It was important for us to have a guide who spoke Russian, and Ender was wonderful. He explained every detail at Dolmabahce Palace. The Princes Islands day trip was a beautiful break from the busy city.
Our guide Ender was incredibly knowledgeable about Turkish history. The hot-air balloon ride at sunrise in Cappadocia was the highlight of our trip. Everything was perfectly organized — from airport pick-up to the last d...
Ender was our Italian-speaking guide and we felt like family. He took us to local spots tourists never see. The hotel choice in Sultanahmet was perfect for walking everywhere.
10+ years later we still talk about our Cappadocia balloon ride and the Bosphorus sunset cruise. Some memories are timeless. Thank you Inca Tour!
