From Kusadasi
Head for the hills on our daily SUV off-road tour from Selcuk, a jeep-style safari that climbs from the coast into wild forest and up to a historic castle at around 1,000 metres. Along the way you stop by ancient tombs, share a picnic lunch near a monastery, take in views across to the Greek island of Samos and cool off in the mineral-rich water of Zeus Cave. Davutlar is a small town south of Kusadasi, at the foot of the mountainous ridge that runs out into the Aegean. The off-road route climbs past rock-cut ancient tombs to a hilltop castle whose position once guarded the coast and still offers sweeping views. Zeus Cave is a natural cavern with a pool where fresh spring water mixes with the sea; legend says the father of the gods hid here, and the cool, mineral-laden water is said to be good for the skin. The national park nearby protects pine forest, wildlife and small coves on the Dilek Peninsula.
On this Selcuk day trip an English-speaking guide stays with you all day, hotel transfers are included and lunch is part of the programme, with entrance fees for the sites in the itinerary covered. Bring swimwear, a towel, comfortable shoes and sun protection. The tracks can be bumpy and dusty, so this daily excursion is best for travellers happy with an unpaved ride.

SUV Off-Road Safari Programme Your guide meets you in your hotel lobby in Selcuk in the morning and the safari gets underway at 09:30. The SUV first drives to Davutlar, where there is a fifteen-minute break to buy fresh food for the day. From there the vehicles leave the paved road and start the climb into the mountains, pausing beside a group of ancient tombs. After about an hour of ascent you reach a historic castle perched at roughly 1,000 metres, with time to look around and enjoy the panorama. The route then heads to a monastery, where a picnic lunch of around an hour and a half is served. In the afternoon the tour continues through wild forest and open landscapes with views across to the island of Samos, before stopping at Zeus Cave, where you can bathe in the cool spring water known for its high mineral and sulphur content. The final stop is the national park, where, if time allows, you can take another swim. The tour ends at around 15:00 and you are transferred back to your hotel.
