Priene, Miletus and Didyma Day Trip from Cesme: Ancient Ionia in One Day

This daily Priene, Miletus and Didyma tour from Cesme brings together three of the most remarkable ancient sites of Western Anatolia on a single, well-paced day tour. With a professional guide, hotel pick-up in Cesme and lunch on the way, you follow the story of the Ionian cities from a hillside town of Hellenistic temples to a great centre of early philosophy and finally to one of the most famous oracle sanctuaries of the classical world.

Day Trip to Çeşme from the Greek Islands (Chios)

Guests staying on Chios can enjoy the Priene, Miletus & Didyma Tour as a day trip from the Greek islands to Turkey — from Chios the ferry takes 20 minutes, so the excursion can be planned between the morning and evening sailings. Pickup is at the Çeşme ferry terminal, and the tour is timed so you can catch the return ferry comfortably. For longer itineraries we check the ferry timetable first and confirm that the full programme fits your day. Please bring your passport and check the Turkish entry requirements for your nationality before travelling.

Priene sits on terraces below Mount Mykale and is admired for its grid street plan and elegant public buildings. Here you see the 4th-century BC Temple of Athena, one of the finest small theatres of the Hellenic world, the agora, the Temple of Zeus Olympios, the council house of around 150 BC, two gymnasiums and the Sanctuary of Demeter. Miletus was once among the largest cities in Anatolia, set on major trade routes, and it became a leading centre of science, philosophy and art. Thinkers such as Anaximander and Anaximenes tried to explain the natural world without relying on the gods, while Hecataeus produced one of the earliest maps of the known world.

Didyma was never a city but a sacred sanctuary of Apollo linked to Miletus. Its rebuilt Ionic temple ranks among the largest of its kind, and the towering columns that still stand give a vivid sense of its original scale. This Didyma day trip from Cesme is ideal for lovers of history, archaeology and mythology; comfortable shoes and sun protection are recommended. Entrance fees for the sites in the programme are included, and the daily excursion ends with a transfer back to your hotel in Cesme.
