Kilis Museum

The Historical Soap House Building, which reflects almost all the architectural features of the region, also exhibits the best examples of its period. The building, which is one of the two big soap shops in Kilis, was named “Kalaycılar Mahsarası”. In the building, which was built in 1880, soap production was carried out to a large extent for trade. The ground floor of the museum is dedicated to the display of archaeological artifacts. Information boards and mound models on the walls of the museum provide information about the history of Kilis and the region to local and foreign visitors.

Most of the artifacts exhibited in the archeology census consist of materials unearthed during the excavations at Oylum Höyük, one of the largest mounds in the Southeastern Anatolia Region. Paleolithic and Neolithic stone tools and various artifacts from the Chalcolithic Age represent the Ubeyd and Uruk cultural phases of Mesopotamia, and artifacts from the Bronze Age, Hellenistic Period, Roman and Eastern Roman Period, and Islamic Periods are exhibited on this floor. On the second floor of the building, a collection of ethnographic works is exhibited. In this section, where the important battle scenes of the Battle of Marj Dabiq are tried to be reflected, the important historical places of Kilis were also tried to be animated with models. However, the exhibited works are also important in terms of reflecting the richness of traditional Kilis culture. In total, 518 works are on display.
