Adana Süleyman Tower

Süleyman Tower is an important Ottoman-era structure located on the Mediterranean coast, west of Yumurtalık district in Adana Province. The tower is approximately 2 km from the town center of Yumurtalık and 85 km from the city center of Adana.

The tower was commissioned in 1536 by the Ottoman Sultan Suleiman the Magnificent as a coastal watchtower to protect the port of Ayas, which was a significant commercial hub of its time. Historically known as Ayas, Yumurtalık was a vibrant trading port with strategic importance in maritime commerce.

Constructed as an early warning structure against pirate attacks targeting the harbor, the tower played a crucial defensive role. It has a pentagonal plan and features narrow observation openings designed for military use. Due to its defensive function, it is also known as the “Armed Tower of Ayas.”

Since 2014, landscaping and restoration efforts have been initiated to integrate the tower into tourism.
