My husband and I chose Inca Tour for our honeymoon and we are so glad we did. The boutique hotel selection was beautiful and the Bosphorus dinner cruise was so romantic. Thank you for making our trip special!
Our European side coast tour from Istanbul shows a quieter, more local face of the city: the colourful lanes of Balat and Fener, a scenic drive along the Bosphorus shore and the fishing village of Garipce near the Black Sea entrance. This daily tour is ideal if you have already seen the great monuments of the old city and want to discover the neighbourhoods where Istanbul residents live, eat and relax.
Arriving in Istanbul on a cruise ship? The Bosphorus European Coast Tour is one of the shore excursions we regularly arrange for cruise guests calling at the port of Istanbul. Because it runs as a private tour, we plan the timing around your ship: your guide and driver meet you at the cruise terminal, and the programme is adjusted to your all-aboard time. Tell us how many hours your ship stays in port and we will confirm that the full programme fits comfortably. Send us your ship name and the date of your call in Istanbul and we will confirm availability.
Balat and neighbouring Fener, on the Golden Horn, were centres of Greek Orthodox and Jewish life during the Ottoman era. Today their steep streets of painted wooden and stone houses, old churches, synagogues and small cafes make them one of the most photogenic corners of Istanbul. From here the route follows the European shore of the Bosphorus, passing waterside villages, mansions and the 15th-century Rumeli Fortress, built by Sultan Mehmed II before the conquest of Constantinople. Ortakoy is a favourite meeting point for locals, especially at weekends, while Tarabya, in the Sariyer district, has long been a summer retreat with historic hotels and the Presidential Residence on its waterfront.
The last stop, Garipce, sits at the northern end of the strait close to the Rumeli Lighthouse, where the Bosphorus meets the Black Sea. Its slow pace, fishing boats and seafood and breakfast restaurants feel a world away from the city centre. This Istanbul day trip and daily excursion includes an English-speaking guide, transport and the entrance fees named in the itinerary; meals are not included, but there is time to enjoy local cafes at your own expense. Expect moderate walking on uneven streets, and dress modestly in Garipce, where beachwear is not accepted in public areas. The tour is suitable for ages 11 and over.

Balat, Bosphorus Coast & Garipce Programme The day begins with a pickup from your hotel at around 09:00, with the exact time confirmed after booking. Your first visit is to Balat and Fener on the Golden Horn, where you walk with your guide through hilly streets of brightly painted houses, past churches, synagogues and neighbourhood cafes, learning about the many communities that once lived side by side here. You then set off along the European shore of the Bosphorus, driving through Ortakoy, Arnavutkoy and Bebek, past the walls of Rumeli Fortress, and on through Istinye, Tarabya and Sariyer towards the northern mouth of the strait. You stop at Ortakoy to enjoy its waterfront square and views of the Bosphorus, then pause in Tarabya, a refined seaside quarter famous for its fish restaurants and the Presidential Residence. Continuing north past the Rumeli Lighthouse area, you reach Garipce, a calm fishing village where you can watch the boats, browse small local stalls and, if you wish, have breakfast or a seafood meal at your own expense. After time to enjoy the village, you are driven back to your hotel in Istanbul.

It was important for us to have a guide who spoke Russian, and Ender was wonderful. He explained every detail at Dolmabahce Palace. The Princes Islands day trip was a beautiful break from the busy city.
Our guide Ender was incredibly knowledgeable about Turkish history. The hot-air balloon ride at sunrise in Cappadocia was the highlight of our trip. Everything was perfectly organized — from airport pick-up to the last d...
Ender was our Italian-speaking guide and we felt like family. He took us to local spots tourists never see. The hotel choice in Sultanahmet was perfect for walking everywhere.
10+ years later we still talk about our Cappadocia balloon ride and the Bosphorus sunset cruise. Some memories are timeless. Thank you Inca Tour!
