Izmir City Day Trip from Selcuk: Konak, Smyrna Agora and Kemeralti

This daily Izmir tour from Selcuk takes you from the quiet town beside Ephesus to the lively heart of Turkey's third-largest city, the ancient Smyrna known as the Pearl of Asia Minor. Guided by an English-speaking expert, this day tour blends Ottoman landmarks, Hellenistic ruins and a classic bazaar walk into one easy daily excursion.

Shore Excursion for Cruise Passengers in Kuşadası

This Izmir Tour also works as a shore excursion from the Kuşadası cruise port — a popular choice for passengers who have one day ashore. As a private excursion it is fully flexible — pickup is right at the pier, the pace follows your group, and we make sure you are back on board well before departure. Tell us how many hours your ship stays in port and we will confirm that the full programme fits comfortably. Simply share your cruise itinerary and the date you are in Kuşadası, and we will reserve your places.

Day Trip to Kuşadası from the Greek Islands (Samos and Patmos)

Guests staying on Samos or Patmos can enjoy the Izmir Tour as a day trip from the Greek islands to Turkey — from Samos the ferry takes 45 minutes; from Patmos the ferry takes about 3 hours, so the excursion can be planned between the morning and evening sailings. Pickup is at the Kuşadası ferry terminal, and the tour is timed so you can catch the return ferry comfortably. For longer itineraries we check the ferry timetable first and confirm that the full programme fits your day. Please bring your passport and check the Turkish entry requirements for your nationality before travelling.

Izmir is home to some 3.7 million people and is Turkey's second-largest port after Istanbul. Set on a broad bay framed by hills, it mixes wide boulevards and modern buildings with red-tiled roofs, old mosques and churches, and its relaxed seafront mood feels close to Mediterranean Europe. The Clock Tower was designed by the Levantine French architect Raymond Charles Pere to celebrate a quarter century of Sultan Abdulhamid II on the throne, and its clock mechanism was a gift from the German Emperor Wilhelm II.

The Asansor has long symbolised the friendship of Izmir's many communities, while the Agora lets you picture public life in antiquity. Kemeralti remains the busiest shopping quarter in the city and is the perfect place for souvenirs. This Izmir day trip includes lunch in Kemeralti, guiding, transport from Selcuk and the entrance fees listed. Please wear comfortable shoes, as much of the visit is on foot.

Tour Programme ▾

Izmir City Highlights Programme Your day begins with a pickup in Selcuk, after which you travel north in an air-conditioned, non-smoking vehicle to the centre of Izmir, the city once called Smyrna. The guided visit opens at Konak Square, where the ornate Clock Tower of 1901 stands as the symbol of the city; your guide explains its link to Sultan Abdulhamid II and the German emperor who donated its clockwork. You then cross to another district to see the Asansor, a historic lift tower built to connect a lower street with one high above it, and pause there for a coffee while hearing stories of the neighbourhood and the communities who lived side by side. The next stop is the Ancient Agora, a Hellenistic marketplace and administrative centre where colonnades and vaulted basements hint at the scale of the old city. From here you stroll into Kemeralti Bazaar, passing busy fish and vegetable stalls on the way to Hisaronu Mosque. Lunch is taken in Kemeralti, followed by free time to browse the shops and soak up the atmosphere of this lively quarter. In the afternoon you are transferred back to your hotel or to Izmir Airport.
