This daily Istanbul art tour is a guided walk through the galleries, cultural centres and museums that shape the city's creative life today, led by a local art professional. Departing from Istanbul's old centre at the Spice Bazaar in Eminonu, the day tour moves into Karakoy, Tophane and Beyoglu, where Ottoman and Orientalist painting sits alongside bold installations and digital art.
This Contemporary Art Walk also works as a shore excursion from the Istanbul cruise port — a popular choice for passengers who have one day ashore. As a private excursion it is fully flexible — pickup is right at the pier, the pace follows your group, and we make sure you are back on board well before departure. Tell us how many hours your ship stays in port and we will confirm that the full programme fits comfortably. Simply share your cruise itinerary and the date you are in Istanbul, and we will reserve your places.
Istanbul has long stood between East and West, and its art scene reflects that mix. SALT Galata, a non-profit institution set in a grand 19th-century former bank building, supports artistic research and keeps an extensive collection of books, documents and digital records covering Turkish visual culture since the 1950s, alongside exhibitions, talks and workshops. In the backstreets of Tophane and Karakoy, small independent galleries and project spaces give a platform to emerging artists and are easy to miss without someone who knows the scene.
Pera Museum, a private museum in Beyoglu, is best known for its Orientalist paintings, including The Tortoise Trainer by Osman Hamdi Bey, one of the most celebrated works in Turkish art. The walk finishes at Istanbul Modern on the Karakoy waterfront, where rotating local and international exhibitions follow how art has evolved over the past hundred-plus years. This daily excursion suits art lovers and curious travellers alike. It is a Beyoglu day trip made entirely on foot, so wear comfortable shoes; lunch is at your own expense.

Beyoglu Contemporary Art Walk Programme The tour begins at the meeting point at the Spice Bazaar in Eminonu, where you meet your local art professional and set off on foot. The first visit is SALT Galata, a not-for-profit cultural institution dedicated to new ideas in art, where you can browse a large archive of publications and digital records charting Turkish creative life since the 1950s and see whatever exhibition is currently on show. From there the route winds through the steep lanes of Beyoglu near the Galata Tower and on to Tophane and Karakoy, where your guide leads you to lesser-known galleries and creative spaces and explains how the city's contemporary art scene took shape. Next comes Pera Museum, whose collection includes Osman Hamdi Bey's famous painting The Tortoise Trainer along with fine Orientalist works. The walk ends at Istanbul Modern, the city's first gallery devoted to modern and contemporary art, where changing exhibitions present local and international artists working across many different media.

My husband and I chose Inca Tour for our honeymoon and we are so glad we did. The boutique hotel selection was beautiful and the Bosphorus dinner cruise was so romantic. Thank you for making our trip special!
It was important for us to have a guide who spoke Russian, and Ender was wonderful. He explained every detail at Dolmabahce Palace. The Princes Islands day trip was a beautiful break from the busy city.
Our guide Ender was incredibly knowledgeable about Turkish history. The hot-air balloon ride at sunrise in Cappadocia was the highlight of our trip. Everything was perfectly organized — from airport pick-up to the last d...
Ender was our Italian-speaking guide and we felt like family. He took us to local spots tourists never see. The hotel choice in Sultanahmet was perfect for walking everywhere.
10+ years later we still talk about our Cappadocia balloon ride and the Bosphorus sunset cruise. Some memories are timeless. Thank you Inca Tour!
