This Kadikoy food tour is a walking day tour that crosses Istanbul from Europe to Asia one plate at a time. Starting in Karakoy with baklava and a generous Turkish breakfast, it continues by ferry over the Bosphorus to Kadikoy, the district the ancient Greeks called Chalcedon, where a fish market, a hearty main course and a cup of Turkish coffee complete the day. All food and drinks offered along the way are included.
Arriving in Istanbul on a cruise ship? The Kadikoy Food Tour is one of the shore excursions we regularly arrange for cruise guests calling at the port of Istanbul. Because it runs as a private tour, we plan the timing around your ship: your guide and driver meet you at the cruise terminal, and the programme is adjusted to your all-aboard time. Tell us how many hours your ship stays in port and we will confirm that the full programme fits comfortably. Send us your ship name and the date of your call in Istanbul and we will confirm availability.
Karakoy, one of the oldest port quarters of Istanbul, has long been associated with baklava makers, which makes it a fitting first stop. Kadikoy has an even longer story: founded as Chalcedon in the seventh century BC, it hosted the Council of Chalcedon in 451, an important church gathering that settled a major doctrinal debate. Today its market streets are among the most lively places to eat on the Asian side, loved by locals for fresh fish, produce and small family-run shops.
As a daily excursion this is ideal for travellers who want to understand the city through its kitchen rather than its monuments. The daily Istanbul tour is led by an English-speaking guide, the ferry fare is covered, and vegetarian, halal or gluten-free needs can be met if mentioned when booking. Hotel pickup is not part of this Istanbul day trip, so you make your own way to the meeting point, from Istanbul's European side. Wear comfortable shoes, dress for the weather and arrive hungry.

Karakoy to Kadikoy Culinary Walk You meet your guide in Karakoy, one of the oldest neighbourhoods of Istanbul, and the tasting starts straight away with a portion of baklava at a local pastry shop. From sweet to savoury, the group then sits down to a traditional Turkish breakfast, a table filled with several cheeses, olives, honey, eggs, tomatoes, cucumbers and more. Well fed, you board a public ferry and cross the Bosphorus, watching the skyline of the historic peninsula slip by on the way to Kadikoy on the Asian side. Your guide shares the story of ancient Chalcedon and the church council held here in the fifth century. Ashore, you explore the bustling fish market, its counters piled with seafood and seasonal produce. Next comes a satisfying main course, which may feature kebabs, mezes or other regional specialities. The walk ends in a traditional coffee house with a strong, aromatic Turkish coffee, and the tour finishes there in Kadikoy, leaving you free to explore further.

My husband and I chose Inca Tour for our honeymoon and we are so glad we did. The boutique hotel selection was beautiful and the Bosphorus dinner cruise was so romantic. Thank you for making our trip special!
It was important for us to have a guide who spoke Russian, and Ender was wonderful. He explained every detail at Dolmabahce Palace. The Princes Islands day trip was a beautiful break from the busy city.
Our guide Ender was incredibly knowledgeable about Turkish history. The hot-air balloon ride at sunrise in Cappadocia was the highlight of our trip. Everything was perfectly organized — from airport pick-up to the last d...
Ender was our Italian-speaking guide and we felt like family. He took us to local spots tourists never see. The hotel choice in Sultanahmet was perfect for walking everywhere.
10+ years later we still talk about our Cappadocia balloon ride and the Bosphorus sunset cruise. Some memories are timeless. Thank you Inca Tour!
