This three-day journey puts you in the heart of Adana, one of southern Turkey's most layered cities, where Byzantine stonework, Ottoman trading streets and a famously bold kitchen sit within a short drive of each other. Eighteen civilizations are said to have ruled this crossroads of trade and military routes, and each left a building, monument or inscription behind.
The full touring day begins at the Sabanci Central Mosque, one of the largest mosques in the country, with its six slender minarets and a design that echoes the Selimiye Mosque in Edirne. From there you cross the Stone Bridge, a Byzantine structure from the 6th century of Emperor Justinian that carries traffic to this day, and stand beneath the Great Clock Tower, the 1882 landmark restored in 1935. You then wander through the Kazancilar Bazaar, the old coppersmiths' market dating from around 1519, with its historic hans and bazaar bathhouse, and visit the Church of Babies in the old centre. Two museums, the Ethnography Museum and the Ataturk Museum, add the story of local life and the early republic.
The day ends at Cobandede Park, a viewpoint overlooking the city and its green surroundings, and Adana's cuisine is part of the experience throughout, from Adana kebab and biryan kebab to meatballs, salads, spiced specialities and desserts. Your journey begins at Adana Airport, where a representative greets you and accompanies you to your private transfer vehicle. The drive takes you into the city and to your hotel, where you check in and have time to settle after your flight. Adana is a warm, lively city on the Seyhan River, and the evening is yours to rest, freshen up and prepare for a full day of sightseeing tomorrow. Dinner is served in Adana, giving you a first taste of the region's famously flavourful cooking, and you spend the night at the hotel. If you arrive early, your guide can briefly outline the next day's route so that you know exactly what to expect from the city tour.
After breakfast your guide collects you from the hotel at 08:30 for a full day in the old city. The first stop is the Sabanci Central Mosque, a vast sanctuary whose exterior and decoration recall the Selimiye Mosque in Edirne and whose six minarets echo the Blue Mosque in Istanbul. Next comes the Stone Bridge, a 6th-century Byzantine work from Justinian's reign that is still in use. You then see the Great Clock Tower, built in 1882 and restored in 1935 after French occupation damage.
