Belgrad Forest stretches across the hills north of Istanbul and has protected the city's water supply for centuries. Ottoman engineers built dams, reservoirs and stone aqueducts here to carry water to the old city, and several of these elegant structures still stand among the trees, making this Belgrad Forest day trip as much a lesson in history as a nature walk.
